A friend bought me this phone because I needed to stay in touch with my relatives out of state. I accually had three phones to choose from... LG 800, LG 900 AND this one. I read all the reviews on the LG PHONES and decided each model had its drawbacks... the 800 kept turning off before you were done dialing, and the 900 seemed by review to have total failure anywhere from 3 to six months.. so obviously LG needs to improve these phones... they went back to the store and I kept the Samsung. I am really impressed with the phone itself, 2 mp Camera and Video camera with 4x zoom... good grief.. this is what my home camera has... how many times have you been out and about and wished you could take a picture of something... now you can and a good one also. This phone is WIFI although I havent used that yet I was assured I could Wifi and not have it use my prepaid minutes... Display is nice and sharp and once you activate the phone the clock sets itself.. that button in the middle of the phone is for navagation... its so cool all you do is run your thumb over it and it moves to the selection you want.. to enter your selection you just press that cool button down.. here I was trying to push the button as if it had direction arrows... the camera launch button by the space bar.. is a lil iffy... it is also the 0 key... and that is what I get the zero... unless I hold the button down I can accually get the Camera... or you can still launch it through the menu. THIS PHONE... will take up to a 32gb mini SD CARD... and it plugs into the side of the phone behind a door not behind the battery as in the case of the LG 800...also you can completely turn off the AUTO LOCK... YEAH... ah life is good.... well not always because...

I SPENT TWO HOURS ON HOLD TO NET 10 and no one answered my call.

For the first day I was pleased with this phone. Solid feel, nice keyboard, lots of features.
But the very first evening I took it out of my pocket and it was asking "Call SOS?". Luckily(?) I had no service there, so it didn't complete the call. I looked online and it turned out that lots of people have this problem with the phone. Pressing "911" does it, even if the phone is locked. So does "000" and "112", thus covering their bases. The FCC apparently has a requirement that any idiot be able to pick the phone up off the road at the scene of an accident and make an emergency call even if the phone is locked, but the result for this phone is a disaster. It is not an exaggeration to say that EVERY time I put it in my pocket even briefly, it gets to the "Call SOS Y/N" stage or worse, I hear the 911 operator from my pocket. (Perhaps my pocket is very scary, so the phone calls 911?) In desperation I started carrying it around in a plastic Chinese takeout container, which was safe but not very convenient. Then I accidentally ran over it with a car, and although the container was utterly destroyed, the phone had no apparent damage at all! Very solid!

The 911 pocket dialing is the worst, but with the possible exception of the e-mail, everything else about the software is terrible also. Did the developers not try this thing out for even a day before they put it on the market? Here are a few of the other problems:

1) Doesn't tell you who the text messages are from until you read them. So I have to click on them to see that they are spam. Worse, there doesn't seem to be any way to block text messages from spam numbers. They have slowed a bit now, but for a while I was getting 5 or 10 a day.

This phone seems specially designed to unlock in your pocket, then turn on its worthless web browser and eat your minutes. I hesitate to set speed-dial because I'm positive it'll call everybody. I haven't had it call 911 yet, but apparently that's an issue for others. The touchpad is too sensitive. Pressing a button is easy enough; this thing makes it maddeningly difficult to quickly access features. The qwerty keyboard is acceptable, but the stupid spacebar with its automatic periods is not. I bought it because my previous Net10 phone malfunctioned and was pronounced dead by customer service. I paid twenty-five bucks for this on clearance; it's not worth that much. Once these minutes are used up I'm going with Virgin Mobile and getting a smart-phone, since Net10/Tracfone insist on fifty bucks a month before you can use one. Bottom line - I hate this phone.

I purchased a few of these phones for my mom who wants to use a smartphone, but doesn't want to pay for a monthly data plan. I cannot tell you how difficult it is to find a decent phone to use with a prepaid plan which does not require you to purchase a monthly data plan and allows you to use Net10's 1500 minutes for 6 months pay-as-you-go plan. This smartphone meets both of these requirements of my mom's. My mom is able to use this phone to go online anywhere she has WiFi access and she doesn't need to worry about "using all of my minutes" to browse the internet, check Facebook, etc. She doesn't want to pay for a monthly plan, or have any kind of contract, and I am just trying to help her avoid the inevitable as long as possible. I purchased 4 of these for her so she doesn't have to worry about finding a new phone once these are inevitably phased out.

Samsung has never let me down with its phones and this one is no exception. It has a pretty good little camera. It's durable. The battery life seems to be decent - We'll see how long it stays decent with my mom's tendency to keep things plugged in at all times. I tried drilling it through her head to just let the battery drain, charge it, and unplug it when it gets to 100%. Time will tell; old habits die hard. My mom was just giddy when I showed her how to download apps and she realized she could assign different ringtones for different callers. My mom is still getting used to typing with this phone without.putting.a.period.between.each.word.instead.of.a.space. but she seems to really like this phone. It's definitely an upgrade from her tiny bar phone and it's horrible battery life and camera. For $9 it's pretty unbeatable. I'm pretty partial to my Galaxy S6 and this phone certainly cannot compare, but it works for my mom.
