From the Manufacturer

Your eyes are tired...staring at a computer for hours and hours takes its toll. The common solutions for handling eyestrain require you to modify your work habits or take numerous breaks throughout the day. They're all patchy fixes that pull you away from your work. So take your choice...digital eye fatigue or less productivity.

There is a better technology driven solution that works with and enhances properties of the human eye. Gunnar digital eyewear increases visual performance, prevents Digital Eye Fatigue (DEF) and protects against full-blown Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). It all begins with i-AMP lens technology -- an optical platform that incorporates proprietary lens materials, lens tints, lens coatings, and lens geometry. Gunnar digital performance eyewear is engineered for an immediate and profound visual advantage and now even the most demanding computer users are more productive and more effective for longer periods of time. Gunnar Digital Performance Eyewear -- the must have digital performance equipment for your digital lifestyle.

Catalyst Shredder
Full coverage. One of our largest frames, Shredder presents bold, angular lines and maximum viewable area. Three dimensional temples and precision cut frames with floating, adjustable nose pads for a customizable fit.

i-FI lens coatings
i-Fi lens coatings filter and protect. Our proprietary nano-filters help capture all of the good light coming from the computer screen while diffusing the bad reflective light and glare. The outer coating provides a protective layer that shields the lens from scratching, abrasion, and oxidation damage.

fRACTYL lens geometry
Computer generated fRACTYL lens geometry mimics nature through advanced science and engineering. Aiding the natural focusing power of the cornea, our lens geometry eases eyestrain caused by near distance computer viewing. fRACTYL lens geometry uses independently curved front and back surfaces to provide unparalleled distortion-free optics. Fused with Gunnar frames, the tightly arced lenses form a personal ocular microclimate that prevents dry eyes.

iONik lens tints
iONik lens tints take harsh artificial light and precisely tune it to match the anatomy of the eye. Our custom organic dye compounds condition and shift transmitted light into the preferred color spectrum, increasing visual contrast, detail and resolution. Edges of screen pixilated images read more easily and interfering blue light is reduced -- ultimately your eyes are less fatigued.

diAMIX lens material
No existing lens material had all the properties we needed. So we gave our lab techs the task of developing the lightest, most optically pure lens material possible. Beating out polycarbonate on the toughness scale and rivaling the undisputed optics of ground glass, diAMIX is the next generation of lens materials for those that demand the highest optical qualities.

I look at computer screens a few hours every day. I bought this Gunnar product hoping it may help relieve eye stress. It claims that it uses several techniques to "shift" spectrum. As far as I know (I'm a senior PhD student in optics), there is no such thing that can "shift" spectrum. All it does is to filter out the blue part of the spectrum by wavelength-selective reflective coating(s), that's why you see the reflecting light is in blue. Well, although I agree that our eyes are more comfortable watching at green instead of blue. I found it's unnecessary to use these glasses, instead I just tune my monitor's color property to diminish the blue component. Other than filtering blue light the glasses have some view shift (the images are shifted horizontally towards the middle, about 5 degrees) but there is no magnification, with two eyes visually the object will appear closer (similar to 3D movie). It adds distortion to the whole picture from middle to side, and it makes me dizzy after a few minutes.

I'm really looking forward to a good product that can help protect eyes, but this doesn't meet my expectation, mainly because of the distortion. I finally returned this after trying it for 2 weeks. I suggest people who are considering this product tune the color property of monitors, it serves the same function as this Gunnar claims.

In the event you don't want to read my issues with this terrible product I will give you the highlights. The quality of this is horrible. They began to fall apart when the Amazon warranty expired. 9 or so months with the product that the lenses are cracking and breaking apart, most of which have been done when they weren't in use! If you spend this kind of money on glasses, which our eyes are worth, you expect to get something that you could use a year later, 6 months later, or a couple of months later. You will not get that with this product!

If I could give this a worse ranking I would. From the still little reviews I am hoping nobody is as foolish as I was for buying this product. I bought these about 9 months ago and am so completely disgusted at them I want to get rid of them, however I am keep a hold on them as proof to what a horrible product this is. The concept is great. I have worked in the tech sector for 10 years now. When I started putting in 8-14 hour days my eye doctor recommend that he make me a hybrid of my regular glasses and something with a slight magnification (.75). This relived so much eye strain it was almost miraculous. My eyes stopped getting worse. 5 years in I had lasic and was thankful to be away from my glasses. Though I hated wearing glasses I went to my optometrist and had him make me a pair of computer glasses with just the .75. The lowest you can get at the store (reading glasses) is 1.25. They work fine if you cannot get your hands on .75. I could careless how I look while I am typing code so how something looks on me is irrelevant. I have always been an advocate of people who use the computer more than an hour a day to have some help. Our eyes are simply not meant for this kind of work.
