I got this because I wanted to improve the quality and clarity of the sound on our 40-inch Bravia TV. I did not, however, want to install a series of satellite speakers for surround sound, or find a place for a subwolfer.

This speaker is a big improvement over the television's built in speakers. The only slight annoyance is the fact that uses a separate remote -- but that's a small consideration, and the sound is much more filled out, and clearer.

FYI

Checking out this product, I noted that Amazon said that customers could buy this in conjunction with a toslink optical cable.

This suggests that there is an optical input on this device.

There is no optical input. Only analog (miniplug or L/R RCA with a supplied adapter).

no HDMI, no COAXIAL, no TOSLINK OPTICAL.

Just the facts, ma'am.

This this will not work with most HDTV sets that have only an optical output.
You could plug it into the headphone jack, but most no longer have that.
You would need an adapter ($20-100) to go from digital to analog. Amazon lists them.

I went to Fry's and automatically the commissioned agents spit on all the soundbars under 200$. But when the manager and I started speaking (and my wife glared at me on the price) it was clear all I needed was to hear a more clear tv and not some theatre sound...............and 90$ could solve this problem opposed to dropping my savings.

It's 90 dollars and will take care of your crappy flat screen audio. My new tv had a muffled audio, Vizio speakers are crap. This sound bar is not some "OMG, the room is alive with surround" but at least you can hear the people speak clearly and I definitely hear a bit of base improvement.

It does what is intended. I use it in combination with my tv speakers. For 90$ I wasn't expecting to change the sound of the world, those systems start at 200$ and end at 3K. This will provide perfectly good sound until your ship comes in for a surround sound system.

Tip: Make sure you have audio RCA output on your tv. A lot of the new tvs don't have this old style output. Also set your tv to "variable audio" to keep the tv speakers and soundbar in synch using only one remote. If one speaker is a little off from the other, use the soundbar remote to adjust the soundbar volume and volaa they are in synch. You can use your old remote now and forever.

TV Sound Bar System: By Sony

Ever since TV's have gone to flat screen the sound on these sets were/are awful. The picture is great but when listening to the audio you sense something is missing. The older TV's came with a large magnet speaker system included in the cabinet. There was enough room to get these speakers within the whole of the system and when stereo came to be the speakers in the cabinet TV's progressed with all of the technical changes in the picture, including color reception and UHF. Those were the times where you added a bow tie to your antenna and voilà UHF would appear on a set capable of picking up the signal.

Well, now comes cable and satellite TV bringing more and more video to your home and the government wanted to get HDTV into every home and the technology complied with the HDTV set, but adding heavy magnetic speakers to the slim design of the large TV was impossible. Ascetics, sure, but the picture quality would suffer from the magnetic fields and cause interference with the picture. There just isn't enough space to accommodate a speaker that can give a theater sound.

So you hook your TV to your A/V system, this helps get more of what was missing in the theater sound and getting to hear what was being said when dialog was being played on the set. But not everyone can afford to add such a luxury to their viewing pleasure. Now, music and video are integrated with data from the computer. All of this can be sent through your A/V system with the press of a few buttons and you are ready to enjoy a whole array of entertainment as well as gaming systems.

OK, this is all fine and dandy, but what if you are looking for something more on the simple side. Something that you plug it into your TV and it's ready to go.

I have a 46" Sony Bravia TV with rear facing speakers, so the soundbar is a great addition. I like the mini remote and the way the unit stays in standby mode until the TV is turned on. Good full, rich sound.

Definitely recommend!

After reading so many reviews on Amazon and a couple of other websites, I decided to order the Sony All-In-One Sound Bar with Remote Control to go with our new Sony 40-inch HD TV. I also ordered the sound bar brackets which I intend to have installed after we move. In the meantime, I ordered the black OFC Express TV Riser (HM-0116) to raise the TV and also allow me to set the Sony Sound Bar on the console in front of the TV/Riser to prevent blocking the TV sensor when I use the remotes. This OFC Express TV Riser 25"x 11"x 5.25" is a perfect solution and looks great.

The instructions for the Sony Sound Bar are a no-brainer and installation of the cable cord and power cord was simple. We use two Sony remotes (his and hers) with our Sony TV and when my elderly husband is operating the remote, I have the Sound Bar either off or programmed to use with the TV remote which reduces the Sound Bar volume substantially but is better than us or our neighbors being accidently blasted out of our apartment. When we watch movies or I am operating the remote, I program the Soundbar to operate from its own remote and WOW! The sound is so much better than standard TV speakers. It looks very attractive in front of our TV and we find the Sony Sound Bar to amplify the sound better than the TV speakers and we no longer have to use the TV Ears. I am very happy with this choice of Sound Bar for our limited space and have already recommended to friends. It was packaged very well and arrived within the promised delivery date. Thanks J & R and Amazon!
