One of my neighbor's Rotttweilers attacked my dog while we were walking around our apartment complex at night. I had this on my wrist. If I didn't, I'd have a dead dog right now. I sprayed that dog like no one's business. My dog and my neighbor also got it, but it stopped the attack. Thank you Sabre.

Before purchasing, I tested this first with the exact model. A friend loaned it to me. I walking on some nearby streets, neighborhood considered safe. I'm an animal lover but a dog nearly took me down

I probably let it get too close before spraying it but I admit that that I thought the dog was bluffing. Plus I love dogs. And until then I'd always been able to calm down those which seemed aggressive but were simply "on alert".

This spray allowed me to get away from the one dog which wasn't going to back off. Turns put the owner had received a warning about not controlling this dog after it bit someone else and yet it had slipped outside. Unfortunately, these things happen.

That was all it took for me to realize that I wanted some protection with me at all times. Also, crime is up in even "safe" neighborhoods in my city. There has been a surge in home invasions lately. And with the holidays approaching, parking lots at shopping malls can be risky areas, especially at night. I have also taken a basic self defense course which goes over situations where pepper spray might not be ideal or provide the desired safety.

Two tips:

1. Practice on a day that isn't windy, to avoid it blowing back toward you. You need to be able to act quickly and be confident about firing the spray. No fumbling. No doubts about how to instantly use pepper spray. So that's why I'd suggest a quick practice shot or two.

2. Remember to aim for the eyes of an attacker. When you're scared, your shaky hands could make your aim off...way off. Some advance prep can control that, even with adrenaline surging.

I got this pepper spray about 5 years ago as a gift from a friend. To be honest, I never really carried it around with me until recently when I started running at night. I just ran a 10K and am training for a triathlon so I run several times a week. I don't make it home from work during the winter before dark, so on days that I run by myself, I started carrying this pepper spray with me. I run right by a police station so I always thought it was a safe place, police drive up and down that street all the time. I just carried the pepper spray with me to feel a little safer in the dark. I tested it the first time I brought it out with me and it still worked really well, even after 5 years of living in my closet.

Well, last Tuesday, I was running at night and a guy ran up behind me and pulled a gun on me. I didn't even think, I just turned back around and sprayed him with the pepper spray. Then I ran and flagged down the first car I could. The guy with the gun slowly walked/jogged in the opposite direction. I stopped a car and we called 911.

It was, as you can imagine, pretty traumatic, but I am safe and uninjured. I have told everyone I know to buy this pepper spray.

I bought this spray for protection against dogs while I jog. I really liked the velcro-elastic cover. It's awesome since it keeps the sprayer all lined up for use without having to hold onto it. I recently decided to test the sprayer. I am really glad that I did this at home and as a test. The pepper solution just ran out all over my hand. There was no 'spray' at all. I was suprised it did not burn my skin. Luckily my husband was home to turn the hose on for me so I didn't get it everywhere.

No matter what kind you get, make sure you test it! If you really need it, it HAS to work.

As a young female who enjoys late night runs, I have found this particular brand of pepper spray to be my top choice since 2006. I have tried several other designs- they were either awkward/hard to spray, didn't spray, or had uncomfortable/no grips. The first canister I bought from sabre, I tested the first day and every 2 months afterward for the next year- it worked like a charm every time. The hand strap is adjustable and allows me to relax my grip when I run. I buy a new one every year or so to make sure there's enough spray left in the canister after all the testing- so this will be my fourth purchase and I have every confidence that it will work as well as the last three. I definitely feel much safer on my runs when I have it with me!

This is easy to dispense and easy to keep hidden. It's comfortable to have in your hand while out, but it's durable enough to safely lock if you store it in a pocket.

It seemed many other reviewers had not tested this, and while I've thankfully never needed to use it in a dangerous situation, I've tested mine. I sprayed it straight down my kitchen sink to test the squirter, and for a week I was coughing in fits every time I was at my kitchen sink. Please learn from my silly mistake and test this one outside and away from the wind!

Also, it helped me to read the directions on the packaging. The packaging explains the spray lock and how to press it when using it an emergency.

This product came earlier than the final date estimated. The condition was perfect and the picture helped beause it looks exactly like the picture and fits my hand exactly as it shows in the picture. The top is easy enough to move to make the sprayer active, but stays locked even jostling around in my pocket and purse with other things.

Bought one for myself and it works - that mean old dog does not chase my bike anymore! Bought another for my wife's bike and the product is defective. Something is wrong with the container and it will not spray. Amazon does not allow this product to be shipped back for replacement as it is a hazardous liquid. If it isn't hazardous to ship to me why can't it be shipped back? But it can't.

Bottom line, if the canister works, its a great product. If the canister doesn't work, its your loss.

I went to test this unit and it took a while to find the right spot to press to get it to emit any of the pepper spray, and then it came out as a weak stream, not as a spray. I had to press it hard close to the opening for the 'spray' to get anything to come out. Worse, because it is considered a 'hazardous' object, I couldn't return it for a refund. It may be a popular seller, but I doubt I'm the only one who has found themselves left holding the bag (or a useless spray cannister)!

I bought this for my lady as she was in a bad area (no lighting big parking lot) after work. She was approached by a man who started to harrass her. SHe is opposed to guns, so she sprayed him. She gave warning to stay back, but he kept coming at her, she sprayed him and with the wind herself too. Still, the guy booked it and I will order more when needed.
