Product Description

2.5" Solid State Drives (SSDs) or Hard Disk Drives offer many benefits over larger 3.5" hard disk drives, such as lower heat output, faster speed (with SSD), and lower power consumption. But installing a new 2.5" SSD or HDD into an existing computer may not be possible due to lack of 2.5" bay drive support. The Sabrent 3.5" to 2.5" Bay Drive Converter Kit easily transforms any available 3.5" bay drive to accommodate up to two 2.5" hard disk drives or SSDs. The Converter Kit is designed to work with all types of computer cases (screw-on type or tool-less type), and can be installed quickly. The adapter is constructed from robust SECC steel to ensure strength and integrity of the adapter.

Customer Reviews

It holds a 2.5" drive and fits a 3.5" bay.
Robert Alexander
Also, You might want to invest in enough straight SATA cables, the L-shaped ones have a hard time fitting in.
Dustin S. Poole
This bracket is very nice, and it's even metal and doesn't seem flimsy at all.

The overall quality of this bracket is excellent. Well formed and finished metal. But, there is one major issue with it, which could be showstopper.
The threads on the outside are not the typical 6/32 threads used on 3.5" disk drives. They are the M3 screw threads used on CD/DVD and 2.5" drives, and match the included screws. The problem is that many PC cases use special sized/shaped 6/32 screws to mount 3.5" drives in the drive cages.
I was able to retap the screw holes with a 6/32 tap, and the bracket then worked for me. But, it was an annoying extra step. It would be nice if they matched the threads normally used for a 3.5" device.
This bracket will hold two 2.5" devices, if they are thin. But it would be nice if there was a bit more vertical clearance between two devices for better cooling airflow and cable access.

Rather helpful product if one is converting over to SSDs from the normal mechanical drive. There are very few ways to go wrong with this type of product, honestly. To the holes lines up for mounting a 2.5" drive? Check. Do the holes line up for mounting the whole thing in a 3.5' drive slot? Check. Is the material used at least as stiff as that of the chassis? Check. And that's about all there is to it. Sabrent does include extra mounting screws in case you don't have any or lost them on accident, which is nice.

It's good for what it is, but I should point out that it aligns the SSD to center. So, the SATA and power connectors don't end up in the same place they would if this were a normal hard drive.

So, this is not the adapter to get if your hard drive fits in a sled and slides into a bay where it connects to a backplane. The connectors will not align. See my picture for greater clarity.

If you're putting the SSD in a case where you just connect a SATA cable, this adapter is just fine.

Works just as it should. It converts a single 3.5" drive to 2 separate 2.5" drives and includes all the necessary screws (there's even an extra screw). It holds the drives tightly so that they don't move while installing and getting the screws in place. I would definitely buy one again.

Like other reviewers have stated, the screw holes for the 3.5-Inch part of this converter are not standard hard drive threads. If you have a Mac Pro or a PC case that uses special rails or caddies then consider purchasing a different product.

Samsung 840 Evo in the hard drive tray, and then installed in the plastic tray in a Dell Optiplex 755.

Note that the tray centers the drive and the connectors. It does not put the SATA connectors in the same location that the connectors would be on a 3.5" drive (see my next picture). This made reassembly in the Optiplex 755 very difficult. It also recessed the SATA connectors back about an inch instead of bringing the connectors to the same 'flush' back as a standard 3.5" drive's connectors.

With that said, good tray if you understand what the final mounting is like.

I purchased this adapter to mount a Samsung 840 EVO SSD in my Dell Optiplex 380. What appealed to me when I purchased it is the unibody construction, to provide the support for a tool-less mounting system like that used in the Optiplex.

The problem that I have with this unit, is when you line up the mounting holes on the bracket with those on the SSD, the SSD is positioned INCHES further inside the case (than the HD was), where the stock cables which came with my Dell (both power and data), using 90 degree connectors, can not attach properly to the SSD drive.

In the end, I paid $10 for this adapter plus another $10 for an additional hard drive caddy for my Optiplex, and can't use either until I spend even more money to purchase longer cables without 90 degree connectors to properly attach the drive.

What a pain in the butt! I didn't mind spending the money, but I wanted this to snap in, securely hold my drive, and fit RIGHT with my stock wiring harness.

Until I purchase new sata power and data cables, the only way I can get my SSD to work is to remove it from this mount and let the drive dangle from the wires at an angle inside my case. That's NOT what I had planned! That's poor engineering in my mind!

Furthermore, there were little "nubs" on this product, where they punched and threaded the screw holes, which I had to grind down with my Dremel before I could even get this bracket to fit WIDTH wise in my case.

I'm not a hater, but I recommend that you try something else!
