This review is from: SAE and the Evolved Packet Core: Driving the Mobile Broadband Revolution (Hardcover)
Finally a good book that explains the mobile packet core unlike many others which focus heavily on the radio aspect. The book focuses on the system level or end-end perspective which is quite helpful. To begin with, the concepts and the rationale behind the design of EPC are covered, before delving deep into topics like QoS, Bearer etc. If you are looking for a summary of the 3GPP standards related to EPC this is the book. A must-have reference for anyone working on the EPC solutions

This review is from: SAE and the Evolved Packet Core: Driving the Mobile Broadband Revolution (Hardcover)
Though a bit light in its treatments of certain subjects, especially charging and billing, and having a few errors here and there, "SAE and the Evolved Packet Core" is a valuable addition to the library of anyone intent on understanding the LTE core network. It's particularly well organized and the references are complete. The treatment of the Diameter protocol as it exists at work in the EPC, and the notions surrounding QoS are especially helpful.

The primary reason i like this book is that it provides a condensed view of the 3gpp specifications in areas starting from LTE basics(session and mobility management) to QOS, Security and even a neat chapter on DNS Selection functions tucked in. When you are looking at hundreds of pages of 3gpp specifications like 23.401, 24.301, 23.203, 33.401 etc, such a book helps you get started.
