I've seen the other reviews, and they are not a fair overview of the product. Peachtree is a true accounting system, and is best used for a business where the people using it are accountants. But, if you are an accountant, there is a tremendous amount of capability and ease of use in the product. Version 7 is even better. If you are simply trying to automate your checkbook and are on a cash basis, this product is overkill.

The program is very smooth and easy to use. I migrated from Peachtree Complete Accounting 2002 and I was scared that it would be more difficult. All the import of the files from 2002 to 2007 worked just fine. Excellent product.

This product works out of the box like other SMB accounting products I have used. It is better than the OS company's and equal to the checkbook company's product. (I don't work for any of them.) I am not an accountant either.

Sage should have a port to Mac.

What are those others talking about? What level of skill do they have? You need to understand.

I've used Peachtree Accounting for years and I've found it easy to use and install. I love this product!! I can't figure out why anyone would use any other software product.
I feel the people that have given this product a bad review must not understand double entry bookkeeping, and maybe their computers didn't meet the requirements.
As far as customer service goes...I've never had to use their's...but in general...customer service is lacking everywhere!!

I've supported Ptree and a few other accounting products for years. In 2000, I used Ptree to teach accounting at UC Extension. I chose it because the software was so easy to learn -- and so class time would be spent on accounting.

But in recent years the product (specifically, Premium 2007, and Premium 2009) has become limited and not kept up with other products.
In the product description, above, there are some problems. The screens for Customers and Vendors look great (in the screen shots). What they don't show you is that INSTEAD of customers, Ptree actually shows *every* invoice.

So you cannot just sort and see the largest customer (or vendor) balance, and then drill in. Apparently, according to support, this has been a problem in the last few versions, and they are unwilling to fix it.
The support people think it is no big deal. In my mind, it takes the "dashboard" from a management level, to below that of a clerk.

There are other issues, too.
You can change the payee of a check, in the system, after a check is printed.
You can delete transactions, the list goes on.

Look very carefully at your requirements before you commit. Use the 30 day money back guarantee to see how it will actually work for you.

Product is ok, but if you have a problem then you are going to need to call support. No support item is free. We had a problem with migration and needed to call. You need to either get a service plan or pay a high one time fee. On top of the payment we had to wait several hours on hold to reach anyone. The support staff we encountered was only marginally helpful. In the end I just had to reinstall and start over from a back up (which could have been done for free). Only reason we are using this software is the cost to transfer and learn another product. If you are looking for new accounting software I recommend considering something else.

I've seen comments that say this works, and its fine "IF YOU'RE an accountant". Peachtree (Sage software) and accountant types are missing the point. IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF IF IT WORKS OR NOT, A SPREADSHEET OR A LEDGER BOOK WILL WORK. The whole issue with computer software is about how easy it makes the job. Isn't that what computers and software are all about. My company installs and supports networks, software and computer systems and I see people in offices just pulling their hair out working with Peachtree so their accountant will be happy. When using or purchasing software you must ask the basic question, will it make my job better, easier and more efficient? If the answer is no, look at another package. There are other accounting packages available that does a better job of helping you manage your business. They have a better user interface, lower training curve, and much less time consuming. Oh yeah, don't even think of running it on Vista! I have got it to run, but let me assure you, you're not going to be happy.

First and formost: I don't have the entire program. I have the trial version. I'm not sure how much that is modified from the actual version of this software, but I had to download it for my class.

Right away "Peachtree Accounting" gave me problems. First the installment, which took quite possibly the longest time ever (I think about 2 and a half hours). Second was the fact that once you start your program and enter the month and year that you want to start on, you can't go back and change it, unless you start your entire project over. For example: If you accidentally enter June 2005 in the part where you want to begin the program, and you ment June 2006, you're going to have a problem. And I pray for you if you journalized all your entries before you realized the problem (like I did...luckly I didn't have that many journal entries to do). One big problem is that this takes up a huge chunk of your hard drive space (the trial version is 388 megabites, I can't imagine what the CD will do). Also if you leave the program up and running with your internet explorer up at the same time and your computer goes into the screen saver. It will cause your system to run EXTREMELY slow. It took me 3 hours to get my computer back to normal.

Overall, I can't recommend this program to anyone. The trial version that I have is supposed to persuade people to purchase the program, but so far it has persuaded me to avoid software from this company. In fact I found no significance within this prgram at all. This is what happens when you go to college and have to take accounting classes because they are apart of your major. You have to download stuff like this. Avoid if possible.

Not that this matters, but the trial version allows you to open the program up to a total of 10 times, before you are forced to make a decision. But you'll probably end up uninstalling it by the 4th time you open it.

I installed this product on my computer, and I cannot use it. I contacted the Peachtree software website, and they have not answered me. I then had to spend double what I paid for the Peachtree, and get another accounting software package. I will never order or use Peachtree again. Their customer support leaves a lot to be desired.
