1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Sales & Marketing Pro May 27, 2011

I've never been disappointed in a piece of "software". The box says it is 20 programs in one. What it is, are links to online services that Palo Alto Software or other entities own, and they want you to subscribe for free trials to each them. i.e. the customer management system is actually just a link for a 6 month free trial subscription to Batchbook.com. The appointment scheduling component to the software is just a 3 month free trial subscription to Appointment-plus. The marketing materials component is actually a link to Vista Print. Here they tell you to take advantage of the Partnership with Vista Print...news flash Palo Alto, I am a Vista Print partner too and so is anyone else with a marketing related business and $50. Even the business plan part of the software is a sales pitch for a marketing book. This software shouldn't be sold...it should be given away, if not take off the shelves. Palo Alto's "sales and marketing plan" works great... for them. They get your $50.00 and you get links to try online services. Wow, what a concept...

FYI Ordering from Amazon was great. Package was delivered on time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive July 15, 2011
By jelarv
As I was using Sales & Marketing Pro for the first time, I recalled why I found Business Plan Pro (also by Palo Alto software) less than ideal. Both products have many places that are repetitive. For example, in S&MP, it asks to discuss your company's "Differentiators" and then in the next section it asks to discuss "Your Remarkable Difference" (aren't they going to be the same?). The next section then asks for the "core branding elements" (aren't you going to brand the differentiators?). If McDonald's differentiator is consistent fast food then wouldn't that also be their remarkable difference and become their core branding element?

I find that both products fail to have a clear framework/road map to show how each element of the plan is unique (to avoid the repetition discussed above) and how they roll up into the master plan. Not to nit-pick, but I also find formatting the text and tables a hassle when compared to Microsoft Word or Excel. A perfect product would be an add-on to Word and Excel (or Google docs) because using their program shouldn't be an exercise in learning how to operate a new word processor and spreadsheet program.

S&MP is a decent product to get your brain thinking about a marketing plan, but if you're like me, you'll need to export it to a word processor when you're 75% done and then eliminate the repetition and clean up the formatting (the only problem with this strategy is that once you leave the program, you can't go back).

4.0 out of 5 stars Responsive Customer service April 27, 2013

I has a question regarding a topic I could not find in this software. I called the customer service line and it took two agents to get me the answer I was looking for. I am using this for a group project. It took a little time investment to become familiar with the software.
