4.0 out of 5 stars The 930B plays out much better than it's reviews. Why? Read on...
I bought the 930B as a large LCD monitor for my mini mac. The mini mac has program icons all along the bottom of the screen, so lots fo real estate is needed.

I've also bought a Samsung 17 inch monitor for my PC so I'm no stranger to Samsung.

Installation is easy. Just screw on the base, and then hook up the power cord and monitor connection...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, some minor issues...... (could have been much better)
The Bad:

1. No ability to move monitor up or down.

2. No DVI cable included

3. Monitor pushes blue

4. 8ms? feels more like 16ms, I came from 25ms monitor, I can still see SOME ghosting, i use a gforce fx 6800 ultra card, so its not my video card

5. When looking at black screen, not standby black, but a black screen...

This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)

Just screw on the base, and then hook up the power cord and monitor connection.

Although the instructions don't mention it, to get at the power cord and monitor connection, a plastic cover must be removed. Took me a few minutes to figure that one out.

The monitor worked straight away, no problems, stuck pixels, or whatever.

Needless to say, the extra real estate that a 19 inch LCD offers is well enjoyed after the price is forgotten.

I changed the resolution to 1280 by 1728 and I was away to the races.

A small point to consider is buy yourself a male-to-male DVI connection. It sharpens up the image a little in comparison to the VESA connector supplied with the monitor.

If you have PC without a DVI connection, you can buy a graphics board very cheaply.

The results of the DVI sharpens up the details a little. Well worthe the $15 investment in a DVI cable (you can find them on the web at that price).

The monitor base is unadjustable which means you can't raise the level of the monitor. It's a minor point to consider.

The screen is very bright (can be adjusted) however I always use my Samsungs at factory default.

The 8ms response, and the 700:1 contrast means this is a quality screen. No worries there.

The buttons at the bottom of the screen are black and a little hard to get at. Luckily, your not likely to use them.

All in all, this is a very good LCD screen. Less eye strain than using a CRT.

The Samsungs are also very good for reviewing photos, given their excellent contrast ratio.

There are usually discounts, so you can pick up one of these babies for just over $300 (as of October 2005).

Very nice LCD, you'd have to pay far more if you want adjustability, or more quality.

I have just upgraded from a low budget17 in LCD from NEC/Mitsubishi. I upgraded for the bigger screen but wow! The picture quality and speed is nothin less than amazing. I felt it was a little pricey but the fellows at the store where I bought it said that for gaming, video, DVD movies and other things I do, this is a must. I am pleased to say that they where 100% correct. This monitor is more than I bargained for. Great response time 8ns and 700:1. seeing is believing, worth every dime. I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor for Gaming, May 23, 2005
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
No Ghosting, extremely fast rate 8ms (almost unbelievable, but I am yet to experience a single ghosting incident while gaming or watching movies). Very good picture and very good design.

My only problem is that it is not made solid, and while punching your LCD screen should never be a habit, I still fear it will fall or break. That beings said, the base is very stable, and the chances of the LCD dropping off your desk is highly unlikely if even possible. Overall an excellent product well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive, April 6, 2005
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
I got this monitor to replace a 17inch Sony LCD. My first impression was wow. I did not think that the improvement would be so big, the color's seem more life like and simply look amazing. Once you work on a 19inch LCD you will never be able to go back to a smaller size. The picture on this Smasung is outstanding and in games it is simply beautiful. I have worked with 19inch LCD's where they were slow in response time, this is defffinatley not one of those. One thing i should point out is that this monitor does have a DVI port on it, however it does not come with a DVI cable, avg price of a DVI cable can be around $30-$100 which blew me away. I got a $30 cable at a computer store and i feel that it was well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent monitor with great price and 3 yr warranty, highly recommended, December 17, 2005

I looked around at LCDs for about a week before deciding on this one. I wanted one for < $400 with good specifications and a 3 yr warranty. This Samsung fit the bill perfectly. I picked it up at my local BEST BUY for $ 350 after mail-in-rebates.

The setup took about 5 minutes and the picture quality is VERY GOOD, not to mention the 8ms (that's really fast for this price) response time. It has both digital and analog inputs, but only comes with an analog cable. As others have noted, the screen is very bright. But that's good news becuase you can lower the brightness level and hence expect the backlight to last longer. I also like the fact that the power supply is built-in. And,last but not the least it comes with a full 3 year warranty which means you DO NOT have to spend another $50 for additional warranty programs.

In my opinion, it is one of the best monitors available in the 19" LCD class.Overall I would highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great!, July 6, 2006
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
I bought this for < $300 USD at a discount warehouse; works like a charm. 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz and its crystal clear with WinXP "ClearType" smoothing enabled (and crystal clear without it, as well, I simply prefer the smoothed look as opposed to the blocky look).

I game and work on graphic design, as well as write, so I spend a lot of time looking at a screen. Previously I used a Sony Trinitron 17" Flat CRT and I didn't think any TFT could come close to that clarity -- much less a 19" display ... but this one is very close. In day-to-day use I hardly notice the difference at all. In gaming, I have not seen any ghosting; response is instant. The only downside is low max res. Would have been absolutely perfect if it went up just one stage higher than 1280 x 1024, to really take advantage of all that screen space while gaming. But otherwise, it's geat!

5.0 out of 5 stars No Need to Buy a More Expensive Monitor, October 31, 2005
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
I liked this monitor so much that I bought two. I've looked at more expensive models in my extensive due diligence on flat-panel monitors, and decided that this is the best 19" monitor, regardless of the price. The fact that many merchants offer price rebates on this monitor currently is a major plus. This is a work-horse, with a understated but functional and ergonomic design that gets you up and running with this new monitor in few minutes. I use the "Internet" preset setting, which works well under all light conditions, almost exclusively. As for complaints, I'm trying to nit-pick here, but cannot think of one right now, which is unusual for me. A great monitor and at a great price. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing quality once again delivered by Samsung, September 3, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
I must start by saying that I bought this monitor merely based on online reviews, technical specs and Samsung's reputation for quality monitors.

First of all you get 8ms response rate which makes it great for all video multimedia options, I have a similar Samsung with 20ms response rate and you can really tell a difference when watching movies/playing, in other words, if you are planning to use your monitor for other things appart from normal office work, this might be the right choice for you.

Important highlights:

1) The self adjusting system works great, it is quite fast and will adapt your screen resolution to your video source, also will adjust screen settings. I hate when you need to keep on adjusting your monitor if you have dark backgrounds, low resolution videos, etc.

2) It has excellent picture quality, can reproduce bright colors very close to a CRT.

3) Easy installation: I run Win XP and it took a couple of clicks and 5 minutes to get it all working in order (however it comes with advance setup options and I enjoyed creating setting profiles for very specific needs which demand the best picture).

4) Reliability, the market of LCD monitors hasn't still being able to offer a good enough warranty policty (that's my opinion), normally you could have up to 3 dead pixels and still wouldn't be able to return your monitor, that is both frustrating and annoying to eyesight. So, the best we can do is to hope on the reliability of brands and Samsung has proven this to me for the 4th time with LCD screens.

The only drawback I could think of is that this monitor is not the most good looking one in the market, it has very sober aesthetics, but I already knew what to expect as I saw all the pictures available from Amazon.

Regarding buying from Amazon, everything went just fine with time of delivery, however the tracking system didn't seem to work.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent LCD Monitor, December 12, 2005
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
This is my first LCD monitor but I am very pleased with this purchase. The quality of the image is very good, with high contrast and brightness. For video, it doesn't have those ghosting effects that you see in slower LCD monitors. The images are sharp and the display works great at 1280x1024 @ 60Hz (its native resolution).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic--compare it to $500+ models, May 31, 2006
This review is from: SAMSUNG SyncMaster 19-inch TFT LCD Flat-Panel Monitor 930B (Electronics)
This monitor goes perfectly with my ATI Radeon X300 128MB video card. Colors are natural enough out-of-the-box for digital photos, and the text is razor sharp. Great for my eyes!

[Note: for any LCD, be sure to disable WindowsXP font smoothing; otherwise, text will be slightly "smeared" in applications like Word, especially with varying sized fonts. Disabling the smoothing makes text very sharp and easy to read at any size.]

Initially I bought a Sony X-Brite that had dead pixels and flickering. Did research and looked at many monitors in stores. The blacks and colors on this Samsung are unbeatable in the $500 range.

Plus it is very fast for DVD's and games. No blurring or raggedy details.

As for the controls, yes, they are hard to read in low-light, but they are easy to remember after a few days. Plus they are easily accessible under the front edge. So what is the big deal about them? Customize brightness and contrast, or choose from a good selection of pre-sets.

Included software fine tunes already excellent color for the pickiest of digital photographers (like myself) to match screen to printer.

[Only the analog cable is included, so I bought the Acoustic Research DVD-I video cable from Amazon for about $25. Heavy duty cable and great quality plugs.]

All in all, I'm patting myself on the back for getting this monitor. And thanking Amazon for backing the computer stuff with great customer service.
