I would have given 5 stars for functionality and price point, although it came with a USB power cable and not a AC power adaptor as shown in the photograph.
I would have purchased a different unit if I had known this and now am stuck with this USB only power option.
At this point sending back and purchasing again is a waist of time. Get your add right!! Show pictures that are true and applicable to the device you are selling please!

I have an older television that is pre-HDMI (a Polaroid FLM-3201).
It has a VGA-in and a DVI-in, but not HDMI-in. I wanted to use this converter box to plug an HDMI-only Chromecast into this TV.
Since I was already using the DVI port for something else (and anyway, DVI plugs can't get the audio channel from any HDMI adapter), I thought, this converter box would be perfect: I can use the TV's existing free VGA port, and use this inexpensive converter to display the Chromecast on the VGA port. The audio output port on this converter will allow me to use the audio channel too. Perfect!
This little box *should* have been perfect for making a Chromecast work on that old TV. The problem is that it doesn't work, for a very weird and specific reason.
The TV set can display 720p and 1080i, but it can't display 1080p. The problem is that the usual back-and-forth handshake that an HDMI device usually has with the display device, which determines the available resolutions, is being subverted by this little converter box being in the middle. Here's how:
Here's what would normally happen on most TVs (and in fact, does happen if I plug the Chromecast into the DVI port on the TV): - TV says "I can do 1080i and 720p". - Chromecast says "hey, I can do 720p, here you go" - everything works.
However, here's what happens with this device in the mix. - Converter box says "I can do any resolution you want, even 1080p" - Chromecast says "hey, 1080p is the best. let's do that. here you go" - My TV then says "VGA input is some weird scan rate I can't do". TV has blank screen.Read more ›

First, as others have noted, no power supply. Only an USB to DC 5v cable. It wouldn't be so bad if they just used a mico- USB connector on the unit, then I could reuse one of the many extra android/electronic device charges I already have.
Deal breaker was not getting decent out put in my setup. I was connecting an AppleTV 2nd get to a 720p monitor. I verified the AppleTV was putting out a 1280x720 signal, but the device was then only passing on a cropped 1200x700 image which was unacceptable.

I used this to connect an Apple TV to an LCD monitor and it worked well. I didn't need the power adapter but other sources like a laptop you might need it. Design a little ugly but its cheap and works!

I don't have a VGA port on my laptop. When I go to customers to present, a lot of them do not have HDMI projectors. This is a great little device for converting HDMI to VGA. This is the second one I have bought because I used the wrong AC adapter and fried the components. This uses very low voltage and I accidentally plugged in the charger for some other device and it stopped working

I bought this to see if I could get my Chromecast to talk to my old plasma TV that has a VGA input. The video worked fine, but the audio output was muffled, as if the entire treble range were missing (or as if the audio were put through a low-pass filter). I tested the box out using another HDMI input and another audio output. All had the same issue but only when attached to the converter box. I didn't see anyone else complaining about this issue here, so I figured it was a manufacturing defect and ordered another. Same issue. Be warned.
