There were no instructions. MHL usually needs power to work. It's not enough to just plug one end into your phone's microUSB port and the other end into your TV's HDMI cable. On the side of the little "brick" part of the adapter is a microUSB port where you'd plug in a microUSB charger, like the one that comes with smartphones. I purchaed an extra cheap microUSB phone charger here on Amazon for a couple of bucks, so I could leave it plugged in by the TV. It turned out not to be necessary, as this adapter came with a USB-to-micro USB charging cable, which is nice. My TV had a USB port, which provides a little power, so I just plugged the USB charging cable into that. USB ports don't provide a whole lot of power, so it's possible the drain the phone's battery faster than USB can replentish it. Therefore, you may want to use a wall plug so your phone can charge at the same time that it's mirroring to the TV. I've heard that the next generation of HDMI with MHL support will carry a charge though the HDMI cable, so a separate cable will not be necessary.

Anyway, this adapter worked perfectly with my new Galaxy Nexus (Verizon LTE version) phone.

This adapter works perfectly with my HTC Rezound. To use this product you MUST have an MHL compatible phone. This adapter will not work on a phone or tablet that does not support MHL. I was a bit disappointed to discover that the device was 720p max. However, most phone content is running at a resolution much lower than 720p so not having the expected 1080p is not too big a setback, yet. Will test a bit more and see how things look and sound as I'm curious to know what kind of sound is output over HDMI (2.0? 5.1?)and how the adapter performs.

IN CASE ANYONE IS CONFUSED:
1) Plug in HDMI and phone's power adapter (whatever you charge your phone with) into MHL.
2) Plug MHL adapter (with HDMI and powercord attached) into phone.
3) A notification should appear acknowledging the adapter and your image should appear on screen.

I received the item early but it did not function unless held at an unusual angle and after 4 minutes it stopped working completely

This adapter does not work with the at&t Samsung galaxy s2... i purchased this as a second adapter because i kept switching between tv's... my other adapter works fine, this one is not compatible with at&t sgs2... tried on multiple TVs with multiple power adapters and with mine and my wife's sgs2... i gave 2 stars because the refund process was smooth, although I'm out of shipping costs both ways.

I have a SGS2 Skyrocket and it works well with my phone. The only weird thing is I need to plug in the usb to a computer and the hdmi to the tv before I plugin the cable to my phone or it won't work. My guess is that's a issue with my phone or my tv. The plastic on the dongle feels a little cheap but for under $10 I can't complain much.

I used a HDMI cable, a Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 and Asus VE278Q 27-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor and could never get it to work after 20 minutes messing around. Its been sitting in my laptop bag pocket for a year now.

I suggest spending a little more on an official Samsung brand "Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter Cable"

I use a HTC EVO V 4G (3D) but to get it to work you must plug in the hdmi and the male micro-USB sticking out goes in your phone, but the tricky part is that on the side you need to plug in your phones charger and charge it to get it to work. Personally i could not get it to work unless you plug your charger in the side. It works fine and i love it.

well, it works as intended. What more can anybody expect? Plugged it in as suggested, and my HTC Vivid phone connects to my TV.
