Passed SAS Base Programming Certification Exam using this guidebook,

This review is from: SAS Certification Prep Guide: Base Programming for SAS 9 (Paperback)
Bought the Prep Guide (SAS9) in August, read it twice and did all
quizes after each chapter. Then, reviewed the book contents and all problems again. Took the test in October and passed it. I changed a job within the company right after, got a 10% higher pay than my current one. You can just study the guidebook alone. Doing the programming exercises in the accompanied CD is helpful for understanding the contents, but not absolutely necessary as long as you fully understand and memorize some important details. The information is massive, you got to put them in an organized way so that you are able to retrieve them easily and fast when you are taking test. Answering 70 questions in 2 hrs, there is a plenty of time. Good luck!

I bought this book and read it many times before the exam. Took notes for concepts that are confusing or may be tricky(like Do while/Until, Length etc.). Passed the test (90% questions correct!) and now preparing for the advanced test. The quizes on the back are good but a bit easier than the test. I also referred the e-planetlabs study guide which had better quizes. Then I reviewd this book again to clear some concepts. Overall, SAS base test is pretty easy if you have these two reference materials. Answering 45 correct questions out of 70 is not that tough. Also SAS website has a mock test which might help practice, but i suggest the e-planet. Good luck.

Excellent prep for test with programming I and II,

This review is from: SAS Certification Prep Guide: Base Programming for SAS 9 (Paperback)
The most notable attribute of the SAS Prep Guide is that it contains a lot of information not included in the two programming classes that I've taken from the SAS Institute (Base Programming I and II). The classes were great, but the book adds even more material (and if it's on the test, I want to know about it!). The book is thorough, over 750 pages of material and includes about 10 questions at the end of each chapter as a test (answers and explanations in the back of the book). Also, the book doubles as a reference guide in case you're stumped and need a resource. I have not used the CDROM at all and thus have no comments in regards to it. Overall, I suggest it, especially if you can get your company to pay for it!

Having certification got me through recession,
By
This review is from: SAS Certification Prep Guide: Base Programming for SAS 9 (Paperback)
Using this book, I obtained the Base certification on late last year. Soon after that, I was laid off by the former employer due to recession. I sent out my resume to companies to find a job and was invited by several companies for interviews. I believe having certification made my resume stood out of others, because hiring managers noticed my having SAS certification during the interview. I had two job offers.
I realize that studying for certification using this book helped increase my programming efficiency as well. This book is full of useful techniques that you could use in your daily programming practices. After the certification test, I still use this book as a reference book. I have bought many SAS-related books, but this certification prep book is very useful and comprehensive for beginner- or intermediate-level SAS users. If I had known this book earlier, I would not have had to waste money for other SAS books that I had actually bought. I strongly recommend this book for your test preparation AND daily SAS programming practices.

This is a wonderful book. I used SAS before for about one year doing complex analysis of data but I lacked the basic fundaments of this software. I am satisfied for the way the book is designed, taking you from the basis to more advanced topics that make you take advantage of all the tools SAS has.

I read the book couple of times before taking the exam and did very well in the certification exam. This book is great as it covers all the topics needed for the exam. There are many things to remember (E.g. lengths of variables) and hence it is a good idea to make notes whenever needed. In short, this book is a must buy for doing well in the exam.

Started preparing for my certification and bought this book..Its very useful and covers entire SAS topics. The questions at the end of each chapter are good to test your understanding of what you just read.I am yet to take my certification exam, but I am confident this will help me through!!

The book is all what you need to get started with SAS. It covers all the basic subjects that a beginner needs to jump start his/her SAS experience.
Then I bought the Practice Exam from the SAS institute to get a feel of the exam questions, and trust me guys, you have to have the practice test in order to know how the real test is going to be. It helps a lot. I bought the book in June end, read it a couple of times while summarizing the important subjects, took the exam in September and passed it. |
