Interesting Native American romance,

This review is from: Savage Obsession (Mass Market Paperback)
Lorinda lives in a small shanty with her parents and baby sister. When her aunt comes to visit she decides to return to the city with her aunt to continue her schooling. Upon her return to the city she encounters a lumberjack, Lamont, who started pressing her attentions the previous visit to her aunts. When Lamont continues his clumsy courtship again, and is flat refused...not only by Lorinda but her aunt as well, Lamont takes matters into his own hands and kidnaps Lorinda. On the way to Duluth, where Lamont plans to have his way with Lorinda and force her into marriage, the couple passes by Lorinda's home just to learn that the homestead had been savagely attacked by indians. Her parents were murdered and her baby sister missing. Giving Lorinda a few days to mourn the loss of her family Lamont continues his pursuit only to be interuppted by Yellow Feather, who hears Lorinda's cries while trying to steal Lamont and Lorinda's horses. Yellow Feather, of the peaceful Chippewa tribe, decides to rescue Lorinda from the evil white man. Upon rescuing Lorinda, Yellow Feather recognizes her from his vision quest as a young man. He now believes that she is an important piece to his new life now that he is the chief of his tribe and tries to convince her of his love and of his innocence in the murder of her parents. Lorinda, while being convinced that she is now Yellow Feather's wife, struggles with her desire for Yellow Feather and her desire to find her missing baby sister and trying to cope with the fact the Yellow Feather also has 2 other wives, one of which is pregnant with the next chief. Read this book and find out how it all comes together to make a wonderful ending.I thought this story started rather slow, but it progressed into a great read, with the beginning characters having effect throughout the story. I thought the characters were well written, the passion consuming and the story compelling. I do recommend this book to avid western/indian romance fans. However, even if you are not a fan of the western/indian genre I believe this book will spark interest regardless. I believe I will check out another Savage book by Cassie Edwards.

Why do I keep reading these?,

I suppose because it's rare that I turn down a free book. I got a stack of these Savage books, and they make for good 'light reading', but some of the books are better than others, and this is not one of these books. What bothered me most was the dialogue, some of it felt so artificial and stilted that envisioning them speak in my head just made me want to crack up.Like in several other Savage books, there are a lot of ellipses. And I do mean a lot. Sometimes there would be like, four of them in a single sentence... like... this, you... see? It just disrupted the flow. And the story is much the same - handsome Native American chief kidnaps a white woman, white woman fights but surrenders to his touch, white woman tries to escape after lovemaking, Native American has to kidnap her again... it gets formulaic after a while. This serves as an prequel to 'Savage Innocence'. I read that one a while ago, and I was surprised to hear familiar names in this book. It was not immediately apparent until later, so it was kind of cool seeing two stories that were connected.
