This amplified speaker system is excellent for use with a flat screen TV with either a headphone output or RCA audio out, as the system provides cables for either situation. A remote control is also provided, that lets one increase/decrease the volume along with a mute button to control the output of the system amplifier. The frequency range of the speakers is optimized for the human voice, to provide for optimum hearing of TV or HDTV programs. The speaker system is easy to assemble, as all the necessary cables are provided. In use, one would either lower or disable the TV's audio, then either turn on the speaker with either the remote, or at the front panel of the amplifier. The amplifier can also be left on all the time, as it will auto-off to standby mode after 5 minutes of non-use. I suppose the speaker system can be used for other uses other than for a TV with weak audio output; but I haven't tried it out in other applications. Otherwise, it is great for TV use, to boost the audio for the hard of hearing.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about electronics. I am older and just want things to plug in and work. These speakers did not work with my tv. However, after a lot of reading I finally plugged them into my Roku. They give superb sound there-as long as I'm streaming through Roku, at any rate. Still that's better than not working at all and I do watch most of my tv through Roku. I have trouble hearing the voices without the additional speakers. These do work well for that. I still need speakers for the times I'm watching regular programming. I'll just keep searching for the right ones.
