1.0 out of 5 stars Serious software support issues, August 12, 2009
This review is from: SCANPRO DIGITAL FILM 35MM NEGATIVES & SLIDES SCANNER! (Electronics)
A nice product concept that I, and apparently a lot of other people, are unable to make work.

Notice that there are NOT a lot of reviews from satisfied customers praising the wonders of this product. There's a reason.

This scanner apparently uses technology from a company named OVT. When it is installed, it is installed as an "OVT Scanner".

When I attempted to use the scanner in a Windows XP SP3 system, I got a number of errors:

"General failure in transfer bad info header info. Bad value error"

"Could not connect capture pin #0 to grabber".

"Is the capture device being used by another application?"

In trying to resolve the problem, I learned the following:

1. No vendor website.
2. No FAQ's
3. Many other scanner users encountering the same or similar problems.
4. No answers.

The problems seem to relate to conflicts with other scanners, or cameras, or software products that people may have installed on their computers in the past. One suspected problem source appears to be ArcSoft's Software Suite, as well as other ArcSoft products.

But so far, no one seems to notice or care that their product is not delivering a positive customer experience. Not ScanPro. Not OVT. Not ArcSoft.

You're on your own.

If you want to shell out $80 or $100 bucks for the exotic experience of staring at some incomprehensible, meaningless computer geek error messages, this is your product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Equipment, December 3, 2009
This review is from: SCANPRO DIGITAL FILM 35MM NEGATIVES & SLIDES SCANNER! (Electronics)
This item is of very poor quality and performance. It provides reasonable quality scanning black and white flilm but is totally unacceptable for color film or slides. Also the Software is archaic and difficult to use. If you buy this you are wasting both your time and money.

1.0 out of 5 stars A really bad product, December 13, 2009
This review is from: SCANPRO DIGITAL FILM 35MM NEGATIVES & SLIDES SCANNER! (Electronics)
Don't waste your money on this product. The slides are so distorted color wise, you won't be able to use them and the film is so grainy its worthless. Why do they even bother to sell something so useless. Unfortunately for me, I read a good review, which tells you that some people just don't know what they're talking about. A total waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Support Software is not Very Good - Computability Issues Abound, August 24, 2009

I agree with the other reviewer, a nice product concept, and yes... apparently a lot of people are unable to make work.

I also agree there are NOT a lot of reviews from satisfied customers praising the wonders of this product. There's a reason indeed.

OVT software is a real bomb. It is installed as "OVT Scanner" - apparently in many Window XP systems it just doesn't work. When I loaded the scanner software (as instructed) in a Windows XP SP2 system, I got an 'error 28' - "cannot find scanner."

In trying to resolve the problem, I learned there is no other drivers that work for my XP system from online sources. Usually you can find something on the Web that will fix many driver problems, but the maker of this product never really supported it very well.

I agree with the previous reviewer:

1. No vendor website.
2. No FAQ's
3. Many other scanner users encountering the same or similar problems.
4. No answers.

This product seems nice enough and well made. But the manufacturer never consulted with software professionals in finding out about how to make his or other third party software bundles work for this product.

Don't buy this product unless you want to have a fruitless adventure in computerland. It is NOT a plug and play product by any means.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misrepresented with No Customer Support, April 12, 2010
This review is from: SCANPRO DIGITAL FILM 35MM NEGATIVES & SLIDES SCANNER! (Electronics)
I just want to echo the other reviewers of this piece of trash. I installed the BlazeVIdeo 1.0 software on my PC running Windows XP, SP3 but when I ran the scanner software, my PC did not recognized the scanner and said to attach it even though it was already connected. The manual says that the software will also work on Windows ME or 98SE so I tried installing the drivers on my older PC and immediately an error message popped up that I had to have Windows Vista of XP to install the drivers. Contact with BlazeVideo support produced the response that I should contact the manufacturer of the scanner, since they only provided the software to run it. What an unbelievable copout! Of course no URL was provided for the manufacturer since it doesn't exist. (I also happen to have ArcSoft Camera Suite 1.3 on my PC and that may be causing some of the problem.) For your own sake, I would just stay away from this scanner; you will only be wasting your time and money by buying it!!
