5.0 out of 5 stars Nice slices, no mess
This gadget is very nice to have, worth the space in your drawer. The slices come out nice and clean, no mess. This gadget is very nice to have, worth the space in your drawer. The slices come out nice and clean, no mess. The thickness of the slices makes them perfect for caprese salad, sandwiches, etc. The only thing is to really think about how you are cutting the tomato else you will end up cutting yourself. The diagram warrants a second look. You put the slicer upside down on a plate so that the cutting edges are facing up. Then you slide the tomato back and forth to get the cuts started. Then pick the whole thing up and continue slicing and PUSHING the tomato onto the saw until it is about half done. Then, grab the tomato and continue slicing while PULLING the tomato through the saw so that you don't cut yourself. Once you do it right, it's second nature. Just make sure to be careful the first time you use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right Price, Right Product!, April 1, 2011

I love this tomato slicer. I read and researched many reviews on electric tomato slicers and finally settled on this one for its price and some positive reviews. I love it! Read the instructions carefully on use of the slicer. You need to push then pull the tomato in a 'sawing' motion. Your hands will get a little juicy but that doesn't bother me. Get the hang of it and you'll be slicing super quick. I had a weeks worth of sliced tomatoes in just a few short minuets. Drop it in the dishwasher and your done with clean up. No moving parts or other pieces to lose or fuss with. I did I say I love it?

My grandmother used to have one of these and this one works just like I remember it. I was on a strict diet that called for lots of tomato eating and this made it easy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just use a sharp knife, August 22, 2011

Doesn't make a clean cut on the tomato skin. The slices come out all raggedy. I bought this to make platters of Caprese Salad and thought it might facilitate the process. But the slices looked really terrible and would have blown the presentation.

If you don't care that your tomato slices are mangled, this is for you. But if you can put the extra effort in, I recommend saving your money and using a sharp knife.

It'll slice tomatoes. It's not high-quality, very inexpensive, but you don't need Ginzu-style sharpness to cut a tomato. Worth a shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, January 1, 2012

Despite some reviews that said this might be difficult to use, I find this to be a great product. I raise hundreds of tomatoes every year and wanted a simpler, faster way to slice them for company, family reunions, and large gatherings. This works quite well and I am glad to have it. Simple, efficient, inexpensive. And I can store it on its edge in my catch-draw, taking up practically no room at all (unlike some of the other more complicated slicers / dicers).

it takes a little practice to get this right, and if the tomato is juicy you will get juice on your hands, but it creates nice thin uniform slices perfect for burgers and sandwiches.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tomato mangler..., October 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tomato Slicer
It would be better if it had a bottom to it or the blades were just sharp, not serrated. The process of rubbing the tomato against the blades makes a mess, and not the neat even tomato slices I was hoping for. I'd do better slicing them myself. If you're tomato is anything less than firm (like ripe you're not gonna get any use out of this product at all.
