5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, January 17, 2009
This is a great alternative to a USB card reader. This works with my military ID (CAC) card. Truly a much less expensive alternative to the Lenovo model which does the same thing. The lip of this card sticks out about 2mm from flush with the side of my laptop, but it not even close to bothering me; this lip actually makes it easier to get the card into the slot versus on top of or below the actual reader slot as has happened to me on a pcmcia card reader.

I plugged this into my laptop running Vista 64, and the OS had no problem loading drivers for the card. You must then download and install the PKI drivers and certificates to get the card reader to read you card to access military sites. I use webmail and DTS, and it works great! There is a 64 bit OS install procedure for the software and certificates--talk with the PKI guys.

I bought this card reader directly from the website of the folks that list this product on amazon and saved about 2-3 bucks between product price and shipping...shopmmc.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, arrived in 4 days., November 23, 2009

The reader arrived in four days (ordered Sunday, arrived Thursday) in good working order. Plugged it into the HP laptop, which searched for and found the driver; ActiveClient recognized it immediately, and it integrated seamlessly without any intervention from me.

Now I don't have to drag the USB reader along on TDYs any more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on DoD (CAC) Common Access Cards, January 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SCR3340 Contact Smart Card Reader (Electronics)
I'm active duty military. I got it to primarily get on webmail and DTS (it works on Air Force Portal too). It works fine with Windows 7 Premium on my Dell Studio XPS 16. Although the operation system "fails to install" to each time I insert the reader, I just ignore the prompt, and it'll still work.

My military ID fits pretty snug in the slot, so tight that when I pull out my CAC, the reader comes out with the card as well. It may annoy some, but I don't mind because I don't constantly insert and withdraw my CAC all day long. It's for my personal notebook when I'm traveling.
