Works great!,
By I plugged this into my laptop running Vista 64, and the OS had no problem loading drivers for the card. You must then download and install the PKI drivers and certificates to get the card reader to read you card to access military sites. I use webmail and DTS, and it works great! There is a 64 bit OS install procedure for the software and certificates--talk with the PKI guys. I bought this card reader directly from the website of the folks that list this product on amazon and saved about 2-3 bucks between product price and shipping...shopmmc.com.

The reader arrived in four days (ordered Sunday, arrived Thursday) in good working order. Plugged it into the HP laptop, which searched for and found the driver; ActiveClient recognized it immediately, and it integrated seamlessly without any intervention from me.
Now I don't have to drag the USB reader along on TDYs any more.

I'm active duty military. I got it to primarily get on webmail and DTS (it works on Air Force Portal too). It works fine with Windows 7 Premium on my Dell Studio XPS 16. Although the operation system "fails to install" to each time I insert the reader, I just ignore the prompt, and it'll still work.
My military ID fits pretty snug in the slot, so tight that when I pull out my CAC, the reader comes out with the card as well. It may annoy some, but I don't mind because I don't constantly insert and withdraw my CAC all day long. It's for my personal notebook when I'm traveling.

A little pricier than some other options out there, but I like having the express card always in my laptop. Don't always PLAN on getting on a CAC enabled site and it's much less hassle than having to carry around and plug in a USB reader. Never had an issue w/ the reader or the ActivCard software. Makes life much easier when you need something on a CAC site and it's Saturday and can't wait until Monday.

I got this reader because I was tired of using the USB reader. I inserted the reader and Windows 7 found and installed the drivers in about 5 minutes. I was able to log into my work computer and webmail right away with no problems.

I have an issue with it staying in the port on my gateway, but I think it's my computers fault. This product is on the pricey side for what it is, so I'm taking away a star for values sake. Like the title says it does what it's supposed to.

My last smart card reader was made by SCM, but my new laptop only had an ExpressCard slot. So it was only natural for me to stick with a brand I trust and fill the void. After the drivers were loaded (Windows 7 64 bit), everything worked as expected. The card reader itself sits flush against the side of my computer, which is perfect because I don't need anything else to snag on the side of my laptop bag. A CAC reader is useful to most people in the military, or corporations where smart cards are used extensively, and this one works perfectly.

I have a HP Pavillion dv6 and had been lugging and swinging around a USB corded smartcard reader for about a year when I finally got around to checking out the different available cards. I finally decided on this one after reading the product reviews of all the carda I was interested in and determined I'd settle on this one. After ti arrived, I pugged it in, my laptop recognized it, completed the install and it was ready.
My only grip is that due to the actual change of the shape of the card slot itself, my smart card doesn't slide in as far as it used to. That's not the card readers fault though. I just wish who ever decided to change the slot shape had considered how a shortened card slot would impact the End Users. |
