5.0 out of 5 stars It works, plain and simple.
I bought this so I could use SD cards in my Canon 40D DSLR. It fits into the card slot of the camera perfectly. The SD cards slide into the adapter smoothly and seat firmly. I've tested it with several SD and SDHC cards, all from different manufacturers, ranging in size from 256M to 4G. All were recognized by the camera, and formatted to the proper capacity. I shoot...

3.0 out of 5 stars Close but no cigar
I got the adapter to be able to use an eyeFi card in a Canon 7D. The adapter is decent quality, and fits the 7D slot well, however the speed of the adapter is quite slow.

The 7D has no problem recording 1080p video on a 133X CF cards. Same can be said of the class 6 AData SDHC in Canon T1i, however the AData in the adapter is not fast enough to record video...

I shoot in RAW plus superfine large size JPG mode. Every shot writes about 20M to whatever card is the camera. I see no appreciable difference in the write speed between SD cards in this adapter, and CF cards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great with a Canon 5D, but is a bit slow., August 17, 2008
This review is from: SD-CF II: SD to CF Type II Adapter (Supports SDHC MMC) (Personal Computers)
Bought it together with a 16GB AData. Made sure to format card in card reader, not in the camera. Works flawlessly. Is a bit slow:

For 4 shots taken with a Canon 5D in RAW+Large_JPEG.

SANDISK EXTREME IV 4GB - 9 Seconds
SANDISK EXTREME II 2GB - 12 Seconds
ADATA 16GB - 14 Seconds
Adapter + ADATA 16GB SD - 18 Seconds

Note that in my card readed, the Sandisk IV and the AData SD are tied for write speed at ca. 10MB/sec. So, it is most likely the adapter slowing it down. In the adapter, on the computer, the AData writes at 3.9MB/sec, which coincides with the time taken by the 5D, as 4 photographs at 20MB a piece ~= 80MB. At 4MB/sec, that is ~20seconds, which is the observed time to record 4 shots on the 5D.

So, in summary, good for travel (Better to have a slightly slower card that my Laptop and PDA can read w/out any external accessories, than to have a faster card).

Basically, for the money, the adapter is great, UNLESS you do weddings or sports professionally, and routinely max out the buffer on your camera, then it is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CF-to-SD Adapter Supports SDHC -- Highly Recommended!, December 20, 2007
This review is from: SD-CF II: SD to CF Type II Adapter (Supports SDHC MMC) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this adapter to utilize SD/SDHC cards in my various CompactFlash devices. And it works great!

I am using this adapter with a new 16gb A-Data SDHC card, and it works perfectly in all of my devices. Said devices include a Sandisk CF reader (attached to an Apple Mac running OS X 10.4.x), a Nikon D300 camera, and finally, a PlayStation 3. All of my devices "see" the full 16gb capacity of the SDHC card, and the read/write performance is outstanding.

The only caveat is that this adapter is a thicker "Type II" CompactFlash card, which may not be supported in some devices. (Thankfully, devices that only support "Type I" CF cards are rare.) Also, your CompactFlash device must support high-capacity CF cards -- those 4gb and greater -- if you wish to use SDHC cards 4gb and larger.

The bottom line? If, like me, you have been waiting for the arrival of a CF-to-SDHC adapter, your wait is over. Purchase this card, and enjoy utilizing your high-capacity SDHC cards in your CompactFlash devices!

I got the adapter to be able to use an eyeFi card in a Canon 7D. The adapter is decent quality, and fits the 7D slot well, however the speed of the adapter is quite slow.

The 7D has no problem recording 1080p video on a 133X CF cards. Same can be said of the class 6 AData SDHC in Canon T1i, however the AData in the adapter is not fast enough to record video from the 7D. Now this is not a big deal as the real benefit of the adapter was in geotagging photos via eyeFi. Problem is that the eyeFi is not even class 6 SDHC, so even shooting photos, it takes about 10 sec. in the adapter to write per raw photo. The relatively cheap 133X CF takes about 2 sec for the same file.

I know the 133 CF can write at 32MB/sec (new ultra pro cards to 90MB/sec) during a computer copy test. I did not test the class 6 in the adapter, but based on camera results I'd be surprised if it was faster than 5MB/sec.

If you only shoot JPEG or have a camera with a smaller image size, and need to use eyeFi - this may work for you.

UPDATE 1yr later:
I've REALLY wanted to make this solution work - but a year after getting the X2 Pro card and the adapter I have to say that, at least for Canon cameras with only a CF slot, your best solution is to get the Canon WFT adapter. Yes it costs way more, but here is the problem: With an eyefi card in a CF adapter, the electronics of the camera wrap around the package and greatly reduce the distance (and speed) of the eyefi card. In fact they reduce it to the point of frustration and non-usability. You can get a signal 10ft out, but the speed will be close to 1Meg, not 50 or 270 you are used to. It gets a bit faster as you get closer, but that defeats the purpose.

The only real solution is to get the WFT, which accomplishes what you really want. The other option is to get a 60D which has an SD slot and use that for your studio work (where a weather seal is not needed). I decided to go that route rather than spending the money for the WFT for my 7D. Getting the 60D gave me one more backup body (uses same battery) and cost about 2X what the WFT would have cost. In the 60D the eyefi works MUCH better than using a CF adapter - although I think the eyefi works fastest in small cameras with little electronics near it to mess with the RFI.

I know you'd like to spend $20 and get wifi, but reality is that a camera like the 7D has too much internal RF noise to work reliably with an adapter, hence and external WFT is sold.

I bought this adapter to be able to use Eye-Fi cards with my Canon 20D and 5D. At first none of the cameras would recognize the Eye-Fi card (Err CF). The Canon 5D was not able to format the card, but my 20D was able to. Once I formatted the card in my 20D, it worked fine in my 5D camera as well.

this adapter works fine. i have a sony alpha digital SLR and it works great. the descriptions don't say if the SD card fits all the way into the adapter... it DOES. supposedly this card works with larger/faster SD cards, so i figure it was worth 5.00 more than the other brand to get this capability. i can download files from the SD card much faster than CF cards. also, SD cards are smaller and cheaper than CF cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why invest in the old technology?, July 11, 2008

I got this because I needed a CF-card but I've already got a lot of high-speed high-capacity SDHC-cards. So why invest in old-tech?! Works great, everything as expected. SDHC is fully supported - my 16MiB cards work just fine.

I bought this on Amazon.com and have been very pleased. It is able to read my Lexar 4GB SDHC cards with no problems in my laptop and most other compact flash devices. However, I was bummed to discover that only SD cards could be read using my FlashTrax XT. SMARTDISK FlashTrax XT Portable Media Player and TV 40GB FTXXT40 In my FlashTrax XT, this adapter only works up to 2GB, although large Compact Flash Cards work with no problems.

I have also used this device in a Nikon D70 camera so that I could use readily available SD cards when my CF cards were full. The speed of this device with a Lexar 133X 4GB SDHC was as fast as a native Compact Flash card.

Finally, I have also successfully used this device with a SanDisck Micro SD card (and its adapater) in this device with no problems. Sandisk 4GB MicroSDHC Memory Card with SD Adapter (BULK Packaging)

Summary, if your host device will recognize high capacity cards, this adapter will let you use SDHC cards as an alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon 20D & Eye-Fi, July 4, 2008
This review is from: SD-CF II: SD to CF Type II Adapter (Supports SDHC MMC) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this product along with the Eye-Fi home. Followed all of the instructions for the Eye-Fi, had to change my wireless network security option to get the card on the network & registered (used WPA-PSK, TPIK). The Eye-Fi fit well into the adapter and similarly the adapter with Eye-Fi fit well into my 20D. Turned on the camera and a CF error appeared.

A link to a site Photojojo Blog recommended to reformat the card, so I did. Everything works well, camera takes photos and shortly after the Eye-Fi transfers the image(s) to a folder on my computer all wirelessly. Note that you will need a wireless network, will not work Eye-Fi to Computer directly (ad-hoc mode). Small price to pay but it sure beats the bulkier wireless Canon option for about $1000.00.

Only thing missing is a Slide Show software that while running will display images from a folder that is being loaded wirelessly from Eye-Fi. Looking at Able Photo Slide Show V2.3 for that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with Eye-Fi Wireless Flash Memory Card, March 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SD-CF II: SD to CF Type II Adapter (Supports SDHC MMC) (Personal Computers)
Eye-Fi Customer Service offers this advice, saying Eye-Fi has contacted Amazon on several occasions to have Amazon remove any bundling with the compact flash adapter. Until this point, Amazon hasn't responded and Eye-Fi has received many complaints from buyers as a result. I'm one of them. Here's what Eye-Fi says:

Eye-Fi does not support the use of SD to CF card adapters with the Eye-Fi Card. Eye-Fi has not tested the Eye-Fi Card in cameras designed to use CF cards and has no explicit knowledge to share about the success of these adapters when used with an Eye-Fi Card. We only support the Eye-Fi Card in cameras designed to use SD or SDHC cards.

We are aware that many users want the Eye-Fi Card functionality in their CF-based cameras and have opted to use a CF card adapter to get the functionality offered by an Eye-Fi Card. The following list of known issues with CF card adapters is a collection of information gathered directly from customer and blogger descriptions of issues they have experienced. By sharing this information Eye-Fi accepts no responsibility for problems encountered when using the Eye-Fi Card and a CF Card adapter.

Wireless range of the Eye-Fi Card is noticeably reduced.
Formatting the Eye-Fi Card in a CF adapter has caused the Eye-Fi Card to fail.
File corruption of photos.
The Eye-Fi Card will not work in Canon 20D, 30D and 40D cameras when used with an "SD/MMC" CF adapter. Use of the newer "SD/SDHC" CF adapters appear to work with the Eye-Fi Card in these cameras. For more information Refer to the Photojojo's article, What to Do if your Eye-Fi + CF adapter won't work with your Canon 20D, 30D, or 40D.
