5.0 out of 5 stars good sturdy piece March 21, 2011

Purchased new through Amazon Mar 2011, Due to being restricted to a wheelchair, I was looking for something to pick up small items that I drop. Wish I had something like this for all the times I was on a ladder and dropped screws.

Pros:
Telescopes very easily.
Does a grand job of picking up paper clips, nails, screws, springs. Item must be drawn to a magnet to work.
Easy to tuck into a take along bag. You might want to buy one for your office, garage, and car/motocycle.
Cost. If you are a prime member, free shipping.
Very sturdy construction. Will take alot of abuse.

Cons: none for anyone with the normal ability to grasp and hold.

Info for disabled: Might be too heavy. If you can grasp/hold and lift the weight mentioned in product info, it will be okay.
It will not pick-up coins as they are treated not to react with magnets.

I'm still looking for something that will pick-up coins. Have tried three different reachers to no avail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very strong but not very slim February 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I recently ordered this magnet pickup to use for one main purpose: the movers knocked over my tool chest and a bunch of nuts, bolts, and wrenches flew under my stove. I bought this pickup in order to go in there and get them. I went with the heavy 15 lb because I wanted to make sure it could handle all the wrenches down there, and because overkill is always fun.

What I didn't consider was the size of the head. It's at least an inch in diameter, so if you have a very small space you need to fit into, this won't work for you. There are of course benefits to having the big head, but it is just something to be aware of.

Quality wise, the pickup is better than I expected. The rubberized handle feels nice in the hand and the telescoping shaft was sturdy...only minimal bend when fully extended. The magnet is very strong, I didn't have weights to test but I would believe at least 15 pounds. When poking around under my stove to get the nuts and bolts, the head occasionally latched on to a metal portion of the stove and I had to pull fairly hard to get it back.

As long as you don't need to fit into very slim places, I can't imagine a better pickup.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality magnet March 7, 2011

The one I recieved had very poor quality magnet. Does not even pick a paper clip properly. That does not mean all of them will be bad.

Very disapointed with this product, you have to be directly over the piece you are picking up or it will fall off the magnet. The magnet is not very strong. Read more
