Magnet seems to work very well.
John Tchoe
While the claim is that it will pull up to 15lbs; I really doubt that means it will pick up 15lbs.
Nelson E. Ingersoll
Very well made telescopic and magnet.

I recently ordered this magnet pickup to use for one main purpose: the movers knocked over my tool chest and a bunch of nuts, bolts, and wrenches flew under my stove. I bought this pickup in order to go in there and get them. I went with the heavy 15 lb because I wanted to make sure it could handle all the wrenches down there, and because overkill is always fun.

What I didn't consider was the size of the head. It's at least an inch in diameter, so if you have a very small space you need to fit into, this won't work for you. There are of course benefits to having the big head, but it is just something to be aware of.

Quality wise, the pickup is better than I expected. The rubberized handle feels nice in the hand and the telescoping shaft was sturdy...only minimal bend when fully extended. The magnet is very strong, I didn't have weights to test but I would believe at least 15 pounds. When poking around under my stove to get the nuts and bolts, the head occasionally latched on to a metal portion of the stove and I had to pull fairly hard to get it back.

As long as you don't need to fit into very slim places, I can't imagine a better pickup.

Purchased new through Amazon Mar 2011, Due to being restricted to a wheelchair, I was looking for something to pick up small items that I drop. Wish I had something like this for all the times I was on a ladder and dropped screws.

Pros:
Telescopes very easily.
Does a grand job of picking up paper clips, nails, screws, springs. Item must be drawn to a magnet to work.
Easy to tuck into a take along bag. You might want to buy one for your office, garage, and car/motocycle.
Cost. If you are a prime member, free shipping.
Very sturdy construction. Will take alot of abuse.

Cons: none for anyone with the normal ability to grasp and hold.

Info for disabled: Might be too heavy. If you can grasp/hold and lift the weight mentioned in product info, it will be okay.
It will not pick-up coins as they are treated not to react with magnets.

I'm still looking for something that will pick-up coins. Have tried three different reachers to no avail.

I'm a janitor now (thanks to economic collapse) and I have to pick up metal coat hangers, paper clips, staples and other magnetic stuff. I'm 60, so this has really saved me from bending over so much. Very strong magnet and large enough for my big hands. Good price too !

The magnet came just in time for my DIY spark plugs replacement for 1998 toyota camry. Despite, the spark plugs having small metal tips, I am very happy this magnet was able to pick up the pick up the spark plugs without any problem.

Even tho i didn't get to extensively test out the wand extended, it feels very strong when extended. I am not worried about the wand breaking under normal uses.

I've owned a few of these telescoping magnets and this is the best of them all. Strong magnet and very well built. I showed to a customer and she purchased for Christmas gifts. Very impressed with product and was surprised there is something of great quality still out there.

I work with a lot of small parts in my hobbies. This magnet is very useful for retrieving them when they get adrift, especially if in some hard to get to place like under my workbench. You don't even need to see the parts to retrieve them. Just extend the wand, move it about where you think the part is, and often it will be retrieved without further problem. Very useful!

I don't believe anyone is gong to be picking up 15 pounds with this magnet, it's not designed for that. However, it's plenty strong for hobby use, and will lift a standard hammer, and at least three pounds, see pictures. It will lift lots of parts, but you will likely break the wand if you regularly try to lift heavy things.

I received a similar tool years ago as a gift and it was very useful. However, I didn't take good care of it and the wand sections began to stick together, eventually pulling apart. If I had occasionally wiped a bit of WD-40 or some persistent lubricant like Break Free CLP on the wand, no doubt it would still be working fine. I highly recommend that if you buy this or any similar telescoping tool, you keep the wand lubricated. I kept the head of the old tool, still with plenty of magnetism, to hold small parts while working on this or that. That has an advantage of slightly magnetizing the parts, and then they will then hold on the end of a screwdriver making them easier to work with.

In summary, this is a very useful little tool. If used with its design abilities (don't try to lift 15 pounds!) and occasionally lubricated, it will last a long time.

The one I recieved had very poor quality magnet. Does not even pick a paper clip properly. That does not mean all of them will be bad.

I was in the market for some sort of magnetic pick up tool, seeing as the toolset I purchased to swap computer components were not magnetized (for the better, really). I came across this and a few other similar tools on Amazon, and decided to purchase this one because it was rated at the highest load-bearing capacity (15 lbs capable). I received it in the mail today. I was immediately blown away by the actual size of the thing. Compact, yet nothing you feel like you would break. There is plenty of surface area on the face of the magnet to pick up items both small and large, it is extremely well magnetized, and the geometric sides are magnetic as well (although less magnetized).

I went around my house just picking up every metal object I could think of. The telescopic feature is fantastic, and extends to upwards of 33". Now that I think about it, this particular model may not perform well in extremely tight spaces, but I bought it for the prospect that it would be able to lift upward of 15 lbs. For now I'd only be using it to recover dropped screws in a computer case that aren't located immediately around any chipset. I could use it for anything in the future really, which is why I bought this one. So far it has done the job well.

I would recommend this item to anybody in the market for buying something similar. Fair price, and I feel like what I bought will honestly last and not break, unless my intention is to break it.

The only con I can think of is the lack of more detailed description about the tool itself. I do not know whether this is the fault of the vendor or Amazon. It gives its telescopic range as well at the weight of the tool (4.8 oz.). Perhaps if I had known the diameter of the magnetic tip, I may have gone a step down from this particular model. We'll see how it fares in real world application.
