5.0 out of 5 stars 6 in 1... not 5!
Don't forget about the ferro rod glued to the side of the container! The lanyard could be used for many things like shelter building, securing a bandage or mending clothing. I know it's not much but it's still there. The compass is luminescent and works well. The ferro rod is small but it does work if you know how to use it. The whistle is loud and hurts my ears. 3.0 out of 5 stars Very low price, but still not a substitute for a real kit
Well, don't think this is a survival kit. It ain't. What we have here is a match safe/case with a decent whistle (a good thing). The mirror is too small, and the flint is inadequate. The compass is OK as long as you understand it's hardly for orienteering.

However, it goes around your neck, is lightweight, and it's something you won't feel silly carrying on...

I stuff it with waterproof matches, fire starter and striker. I submerged it for a few minutes and then lit a non waterproof match as a test - no problems with leaks. I got it at Walmart on clearance for a buck.

There are several versions of this thing, and this is likely the least expensive. Maybe buy a bunch for a Scout troop?

Stock it with some high quality matches (and a striker), carry a Swiss army knife and a tiny 1st aid kit, and you're fine if you're not really going in the wilderness

4.0 out of 5 stars It gets the job done.., August 12, 2011

It is what it is... a $5 piece of plastic. The whistle is good quality and would serve it's function in an emergency. The compass was surprisingly accurate! As for the container, it fits roughly 20 matches nicley and is completely waterproof. The mirror is small but does work. But i don't even know why they include the ferro rod... If it even is one! You would never be able to light a fire with it.. you would literally be better off with two sticks! Overall, you're better off buying a small button compass, a good quality signal mirror, a small waterproof match container, and a firesteel. It's just redundant to get this if you could have one good quality version of each item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Survival Whistle 5 in 1, December 8, 2011

I have this in my car just in case of an emergency. I love that it has a Compass on it and Lanyard, Mirror, Match Storage, for your Car, Truck, RV, OTV, Boat, Camping & Outdoor Kits. A very good inexpensive product to buy for an emergency. I highly recommend buying these for each of your family members to keep on them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good whistle considering the price, November 7, 2011

This review is from: SE 5 in 1 Survival Whistle (Misc.)
This is actually a pretty good little whistle, I tried it and it is very loud. It is about 3 inches long and can hanged around the neck. The compass is pretty decent considering the price. It works but it is just a little slow. The mirror would be a nice touch, if I could find it. On the package it points to the compass part as being the location of the mirror but nothing screws or pops open so I am guessing that maybe they mean the compass itself? It does have a reflective surface so that could very well be it. The flint is about a one inch long grey strip located on the side. I havn't tried that yet so I can't say how well it works but I am assuming it will at least do the job. To sum this up would I recommend this to a friend? Probably, since the price is so good. Would this come in handy in the event of an emergency? The whistle and compass would for sure but I don't know about the flint or mirror. Would I but this again? Yes. Hope this helps!
