I bought one and am waiting for another. It works exactly as it should and is very strong. I was also amazed at the knife's sharpness. It is not serrated but has a razor thin and very sharp edge. You'll have to keep sharpening it but that is even better than serrated knives because it can be kept very sharp.
If you aren't prepared, you may think that this "falls apart" when it separates. But this is simply so that the knife and fork can be used together as they naturally are at home. Unlike plastic, this one won't break when cutting food and won't melt when stirring coffee or tea (who wants melted plastic in tea or coffee?) In fact, if you had a very small apartment with a shortage of kitchen drawers, you could easily stow these in a tin. Besides camping trips, this would work very well for eating lunch at your desk while at work. It is also fun for surprising visitors who think this is some kind of Swiss army knife. Should be included in an emergency kit for harsh winters and in case you get lost while camping. Of course, you'll need equally or more important survival gear beside fold-up silverware. But this can be washed, used again and help make meal time much easier. Have a good emergency blanket and (depending on the situation) a tent, dehydrated food, plenty of water, first aid kit, etc...and add this to your gear.

I have been looking for an affordable fork, spoon and knife combination for camping.
Many seem to be way overpriced for a set of fork, spoon and knife($15-20). This came to my attention as the cheapest choice. The finish and quality is not great but very acceptable for less than $4. With some sharpening, the knife can be used as a steak knife. What I didn't like (minus one star) was the oil used for lubrication. Be sure to remove it before the first use. It smells like chemical lubricant similar to WD40. To remove the oil, I kept mine in hot water with some detergent over night. ----- (Updated on Sept 14, 2010) Disappointment. Exterior panels, spoon, knife and fork are all made with stainless steel, but some internal plates seem to be rusting only after few use and clean-ups. Even with rusting, it is still usable, but I have to admit it looks awful. (minus one star)

I was really excited about this product and the price, but when I received it (I bought THREE, one for myself and two to to give to friends) the quality was so poor in ALL three of them. When I opened the package, one of them was scratched up and looked like they had been used. Two of the three could be easily taken apart and one was very difficult to take apart. I put them all back together and planned to wash them in a few days before our camping trip. As I went to take apart the pieces to wash, NONE of the three sets are coming apart. It is so frustrating. Also, I've noticed that the metal that holds the utensil to the actual base is coming off on one of them.
This product is cheaply made and I regret buying them. I would return them, but the cost of the return shipping makes it not worth it.

The first time I tried to unfold the spoon the assembly fell apart. After inspection, I noticed a hole where one of the brass rivets was supposed to be. The missing rivet/dowel was not in the package either. It appears as though it was never installed at the factory. See the image I've uploaded to the gallery.Even if it would have functioned properly, this is a 3 star product at best. The fork is very thin and bends easily, the individual tines bend even easier. The can opener is not even close to sharp even though the cutting edge has been ground. It will only punch through a can instead of cutting through. Although fairly compact, this thing is HEAVY (5.25oz without the pouch). The corkscrew and bottle opener are, for the most part, unnecessary and just add weight. My feeling is that 5.25oz is far too heavy for a fork and spoon for hiking/backpacking (the knife isn't needed as most people carry a quality knife when in the bush). If I'm car camping, I'd rather use full sized utensils that are easier to hold and clean as weight/size isn't an issue. Also, reading other reviews, its apparent that portions of this tool will rust. In summary, this it a LOW QUALITY "novelty" item that's just not practical for it's intended use.

Splits into two pieces when spoon and fork both open. Keep it in my lunch box when not camping. Always there if needed.

Clutch hole (female) is smaller than clutch (male) hence it din't pull out easily. Stuck together very badly.
I used screw driver to seperate them apart multiple times, now entire body is bent a little bit and loosen. I ordered 2, and both are in really poor quality. I regret....

The item seems like it would work well but was not constructed very well. The first time i tried to open it the tension bar in the middle fell out. Come to find out a rivet was missing and let the tension bar fall out. Buy something else that is better made.

Like it, but hinges are not for liquid or sand,

I bought one to try it out, then bought another three to have a family set when camping. The kids really like theirs and take good care of them (surprisingly). The hubby really likes and shows it off when he can. As for me, there are pros and cons. Pros: They are durable in that they can handle a hearty chunk of meat, more compact (and less noisy) than carrying a bunch of silverware, and we have fun using them. The pouch is a must. As for the cons, I discovered them only after using these on several camping trips. For one, don't drop these in the sand or into sandy dirt (no, we weren't at a beach). The sand gets into the hinge points and doesn't come out. Ours still works so far, but I can't get it fully clean. (Don't soak these.) Two, the hinge points and their lubricants are close enough to the utensil that they will go into your liquid food: cereal milk, pancake batter, soup, chili, etc. It's not a big deal compared to not eating at all, but it's got me rethinking my friend's titanium spork that has no hinge. So, in summary I still enjoy my purchase, but I will be shopping around for another option for stirring and eating liquids.
