If your glasses are newer than twenty years old, spend a bit more and get a kit that will be useful to you,

This kit is worthless unless you have some very old glasses, I am talking twenty years old.
The screwdriver that comes with it is has such a tiny head that it did not fit on any of the three pairs that had loose screws that needed tightening. The kit also came with nine tiny screws, all of the same size that were too small for me to use on any of my glasses should I have wanted to replace the loose screws. The adhesive on the two nose pads was inadequate and lasted all of two days on both pads. All things considered this kit was worthless to me since none of my glasses are very old. The one positive thing that I can say about this purchase is that I am glad that I only paid $2.88, a price which I see has now increased by over 1/3--a rip off IMHO! I would not recommend this kit to anyone with eyeglasses that are not older than twenty years, because according to my optometrist/aunt, that's about when the small screws were phased out.

Okay....I recommend that you should not buy this item. The material that the flat-head screw driver is made of is sooo weak. The first time I used it, it chipped. Not worth the buy. Make the effort to go to your eye-glass store of choice to tighten or fix your glasses.

The screwdriver in this set is pretty much useless. Perhaps if you have a child sized hand, the handle would be big enough to actually put some strength behind it, but otherwise if the screw isn't already loose or needing to be tightened to a real level, you're better off with another set!

I lost the screw in a nose piece on my glasses and ordered this to fix it. None of the screws that came with it were small enough though. It worked great to tighten the screws in the arms of the glasses though.

I have uploaded two images to give you a bit of scale on the screwdriver. What I needed was a teensy screwdriver and that's exactly what I got.The remainder of the "kit" is take-it-or-leave-it for me. The nose pads are foam and thus only a temporary fix if your own nose pads break. However, the only time I've had a nose pad break, I took my glasses back to the place where I'd bought them and the nice people there replaced the pad for free. So a temp fix would be all that is necessary. The screws are far too big for my glasses. But what I really needed was the itty bitty screwdriver, which is hard to find. Most eyeglass kits give you one that is way too big. This one is absolutely tiny, and therefore I got exactly what I needed.

Poor Packaging BUT GREAT COMPANY AND PRODUCT,

The first one came in a package that was just two peices of cardboard taped together with large gaps and holes and the product came apart and the screwdriver and screws were missing. When I Emailed the sender they promptly sent a replacement ( packaged properly ) so I WOULD BUY FROM THEM AGAIN BECAUSE YOU NEVER REALLY KNOW ABOUT A BUSINESS UNTIL THEY HAVE TO MAKE SOMETHING RIGHT.

The SE Eyeglass Repair Kit, with it's precision screwdriver, two nose-pads, two screws and washers, and transparent case and top, is just what an individual who wears glasses would want. It is inexpensive, has all the basic materials....and it WORKS! Fortunately for me, all I've really needed from this kit is the screwdriver, to tighten the screws in my eyeglasses from time to time, to make them fit better. But it's nice to have the additional parts around, in case I should need them.
This is, however, obviously NOT a kit for those who have many people in their family who need many, (or frequent), changes of screws, washers, and nose-pads, for the bare minimum of these items is included in this very basic kit. One must be careful, however, not to lose any or all of the spare parts -- or this very small eyeglass repair-kit itself. I'm on my second one, (having misplaced the first about a year ago), and in trying to put all the materials back after successfully tightening my glasses end-pieces, have already have lost one of the screws -- which I fortunately believe I won't really need. It is sadly very difficult to extract just the screwdriver, alone, from the small tube this kit comes in, and, after trying to do so, decided it was just easier to let all the pieces fall on the table... And yes, the tube itself is somewhat delicate, and can be easily broken if one is not careful. (I didn't know that when I bought my first kit, and, yes, I partially broke it upon first opening it. I guess that's why it got lost so easily...) However, if one IS careful opening and closing this kit, the plastic case should last a reaonably long period of time.... So, put this small kit in a very GOOD place, so it is not lost. Handle it gently when opening and closing it. Keep a VERY close watch on all the small parts. If these simple things are done, the small screwdriver in this eye-glass repair kit will last for a very long time, as will the nose-pads, screws and washers....until these have to be used, of course!

Not worth your money if you want to replace the nose pads on your glasses....,

I bought this kit to replace the nose pads on my glasses. The other parts that the kit includes (screw driver, screws, and grommets) are well constructed. The screw driver worked well and within seconds I had the existing nose pads removed from my glasses. However, when I went to replace the nose pads, I noticed that nose pads included in this kit have ADHESIVE on them as the only means by which to install them on a pair of glasses. That's right, ADHESIVE. They are merely thin foam pads with a piece of paper that is removed to expose the adhesive. While this may work as a short-term solution, clearly it won't last as long as other nose pads that actually screw into a pair of glasses.
In short, I recommend buying this kit if you needs screws or a screw driver so that you can repair your glasses in a pinch, but if you want quality, long-lasting nose pads I suggest looking elsewhere. |
