I'm new to sculpting and wanted to make sure it was something I would keep up with before doling out more money. For less than $6 shipped, this product seemed to be the perfect fit.

As others have said previously, many of these tools are nearly identical to each other. Secondly, they are very cheaply made. The metal bits are thin and bend easily under mild pressure.

If you just need some starter tools to use while you give sculpting a test run, this product is probably what you're looking for.
However if you're already sold on sculpting and are looking for tools to replace or add to your collection, I'd look elsewhere.

I used the tools to create several coil pots and hand build pots with shapes and human faces on it. It also came in handy when I was building a large human bust sculpture about 3 feet tall. A great tool set to own! It comes in handy when trying to carve away intricate details on the wheel thrown pottery as well as hand build delicate pots.

We use the "11-piece Pottery / Sculpture Tool Set, Clay & Wax Carving Tools" to carve wax candles (see picture). This set contains a good selection of tools for working and adding texture to wax.

The quality is fairly good for the price (which is a factor in my rating) and I expect to get a lot of use from these tools.

This sculpture set has lots of tools. I rarely use all of them, but perhaps I just haven't gotten to the place where those tools are needed. Or I haven't figured them out yet. What I do use a lot is a new product called "Studio by Sculpey". It is a set of three long black handled tools with 3 different size smooth metal balls on the ends. On the opposite ends are soft rubber tips for smoothing and forming.

Typical hobby store assortment of tools.

Great quality for the price range! Serious model makers have extremely expensive tools and prolly a few set of these laying around. I was pleased with the texture of the wooden handles, very smooth and the tool ends are really solid.

The ironic thing is these will not be your bread and butter sculpting tools, random things you come across in life seem to be your frequently used tools.

I would recommend everyone getting a set of these and as many shapes and sizes of spring steel you can find.

I guess price wise, you cannot go wrong, or maybe my tool usage is a bit too intense, but these tools bend very easily. If I could go back and purchase a more reliable set I would go with one that are one piece of metal, no wood, where it seems to bend at the base of the wood / metal. However, having said that, the variety is definitely useful for multiple types of projects.

You do get a decent value for what you spend....but you're not buying much. The connection between the wood handles and the metal pieces feels insubstantial (though in practice, it holds together), the metal feels flimsy (but again, works) and overall it doesn't feel like quality. But given the price, you get what you pay for. Its an excellent value, functional and effective.

I started working on some ceramic projects and I didnt want to spend too much money on tools since your hands are probably the best tools to sculpt. Anyways, these tools were priced fairly cheap so I decided to try them and I was not disappointed. They aren't flimsy, and are pretty sturdy. They didnt bend or break when I used them, since clay is really heavy. It comes with a variety of different tools so you can get creative. I would recommend to anyone who doesnt want to spend too much money on good tools.

I've previously worked on and have done pottery for five years, I love it and I am experienced with it enough to know that these tools help a lot! Although, sadly that's where the positives end. I original bought this package as a different type of art project, but the tools I have used in the past were significantly better and more stable for any job. These resemble those tools, but other than appearances that's where the similarities end. If you're looking for good solid Clay/Pottery tools I suggest looking elsewhere.

The Good:
- They're Cheap

The Bad:
- Cheap
- Bad Construction (the wood itself is of the lowest quality, which people may pass off as a cosmetic or "feel" type issue, until you realize that the tips are not that secure)
- Flimsy metal (the metal bends under the slightest pressure. If I used these to create a design on a piece thats being thrown (thrown is a term used for when making pottery on the wheel), the tool wouldn't only bend but would probably get stuck within the clay.
- Due to the flimsy nature of the overall product some of these tools are pretty much worthless. I got the eleven piece set and most of the carving tools are worthless due to the fact that when being used. Even though I'm using these on a different project than clay, forget about doing any type of sgraffito art without breaking these.

ALL OF THIS BEING SAID, there are some useful tools, the brushes to score and slip seem like they'd be awesome for the job and I recommend anyone getting these for pottery to save their time and money and ONLY GET THE 8 PIECE SET. While I did not order this set I can tell you that these include the best and basic tools you will need, especially for when throwing clay.

Hope this helps!

This set pratically has everything you need for carving. At school- we have a set that only has 4 basic tools. I purchased thses as I found that 4 tools just isn't enough. I was able to use all these tools on making a large purse out of clay. I had to make this purse twice, as the first time I just used the basic tools we had at school- and it cracked. Having all 11 tools the second time I made this purse, it didn't crack! This set comes with all the tools you can think of! I am so happy I was able to recieve this set fast in the mail! Overall the best tools yet!
