5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Magnifier Glasses for the price
I have no other magnifier glasses to compare with, but these work perfectly for my purposes - close up hobby work, repairing eye glasses, repairing very small items, etc. The LED "headlights" really work. The magnification of either power allows me to get a clear, close view. (I haven't needed the eye loop - and it has not fallen loose. If it does, I'll tighten it's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Head Visor magnifier, December 27, 2007
This review is from: SE Magnifier, Headband Lighted (Electronics)
Wears well on the head and the lens plastic is pretty scratch resistant. But he loupe magnifier attached to the outside needs a different kind of mounting. The screw keeps coming loose and is a real bother when being used a lot while working with mineral specimens. You have to constantly keep using a small screw driver to tighten the screw; otherwise it keeps falling into your line of vision when looking at specimens or just swings back and forth when you turn your head even just a little. Does it work? Yes. Magnifies well and the loupe makes small specimens easy to see. But the mounting needs to be changed to something with a bit of friction that stays at that point of friction so you can do a lot of close work without the bother of constantly tightening it again and again.

The magnification of either power allows me to get a clear, close view. (I haven't needed the eye loop - and it has not fallen loose. If it does, I'll tighten it's screw!) The headband is comfortable, the velcro makes it easy to adjust. The price was unbelieveable! With no shipping! How do they do that?! Maybe I'll buy another one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Even at $10 it's overpriced., March 22, 2008

Product arrived with only one LED working due to a poor solder connection, and there's enough lens distortion to make one ill. This is a "dollar store" item at best.

In case you overlooked it, this thing has two full width lenses: one fixed and one that flips down from the inside. Then it has the tiny round one mounted on the screw. The optical performance is fine. the band that goes around your head is velcro adjustable and the entire front optical assembly flips up and down so that you don't have to take it on and off your head constantly.

With both of the full width lenses in play, you get tremendous magnification and with the round lens down too, it's like a weak microscope.

The lights work well, and they're LED, so they shouldn't eat batteries. They're tilted inward to meet in the middle on your subject.

If you take the free shipping option, this thing is practically free. Even better, if you look this gift horse in the mouth, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The hinge on the right side of this product broke 5 minutes into wearing it for the first time. I have attached wire and tape to try to repair it because I don't have time to send it back!!!

I have several types of head worn magnifiers including the Bausch and Lombs and the no-name brand you see everywhere for a single digit amount. These are also low cost and seem to have a lot of features such as two leds each needing a pair of AAA batteries. There is also a flip down additional magnifier which is actually pretty useful, and an additional external loupe. The price you pay for all this is weight, especially with batteries in, as this item is not a very comfortable fit, nor is it light in weight. The quality is OK and certainly OK for the price, and a much better overall value, and much more comfortable and usable than the expensive B&Ls, which come last in my ratings.

Needed a handfree magnifier to work on smaller projects. Works well. Not sure about the need for the whole visor thing but works well for the price. Almost paid $40 for the popular visor one at a hobby shop. Glad I checked Amazon. A bit on the cheap plasicy side but for the price - how can one complain - it does the job. Must be pretty close to the project you are working on though due to the fixed nature of the magniifcation.
Will it last, who knows, but at this price I can buy another.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor engineering and shoddy craftsmanship, July 8, 2010
This review is from: SE Magnifier, Headband Lighted (Electronics)
I purchased this product as an inexpensive way to view soldering projects for fine work and have been sorely disappointed.
Headband
The headband and visor are made of the same type of plastic with a type of snap button to hold the band to the visor. With no means of tightening these, when batteries are inserted into the light system the friction is overcome by weight and the visor can fall completely on your nose.
Lenses
The lenses are plastic with stated ratings of 1.8x, 2.3x and 4.8x if you include the small drop down on the outside, but testing shows this to be much weaker, especially without the outer one. The outer lens can be swapped for left eyed-dominant people, but extreme care must be taken. The screws used to hold the lenses in place use the lenses themselves as securing points. The plastic is so thin near the edges that even slight tightening can crack or break them, ruining the entire item.
Finally, in order to gain focus, items had to be within an inch or two of the glasses themselves, and magnification was moderate at best, poor at worst. Few details could be picked out that the eye couldn't see normally.
Side Lights
There are actually two separate lights, one on each side with two separate switches. Either one or both can be removed via two screws on the inside of the band. Though shown with LEDs, mine came with standard incandescent lights. Also, the light positions were not adjustable, meaning when an item was in focus, the light was not on that focus point, but outside it to the left or right.

All in all this product is a waste of time and money. For anyone looking for a hands free option, money would be better spent on a higher quality pair or a lighted magnifying glass on an arm.
