5.0 out of 5 stars quality tool
Two months of daily use, several times a day..just keeping a weather eye on fungi.
Great timesaver for me, the loupe acts as a low power microscope in my pocket, so I
don't have to set up the "real" microscope to use it's "low power" [40x] optics.
Hundreds of opening/closing cycles, hinged cover still tight as new. Lens solidly

The field of view is very small and the specimen must be very close to the lens to get a clear view of it. I'm a geology major at Sam Houston State University and I purchased this for looking at hand specimens in mineralogy class. More magnification is NOT better. Get a 10x. They have a better field of view, more of the specimen is in focus, and the sample can be...

Hundreds of opening/closing cycles, hinged cover still tight as new. Lens solidly

Can't beat the price for optics in this class.
[If you haven't used a loupe before, keep in mind that it must be VERY close to your
eye. Had folks hand it back to me with a "it don't work" comment. Yes, it does work, Sam..just gotta' get it real close to your eye!]
Great fun to see everyday stuff [like micro critters] 30x larger.

It took me a while to find this eye loupe and I was hesitant to purchase because of the lack of feedback. However, this item was a steal for the price that I paid. It comes in a nice leather case. The eye loupe itself has good weight and the quality is excellent! This is definitely a professional grade eye loupe and I do recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed, January 8, 2010

I purchased this after reading the other reviews and noticing how cheap it was. It is truly a spectacular deal! It took a few minutes to realize just how close your eye had to be to it in order to see but after that I have been looking at everything. This Loupe is pretty much a tiny microscope. I can actually use it on my computer screen to see the individual colors that are making up the graphics, not bad! I would highly recommend purchasing one of these *at this price just to have for some random fun*!

I'm a geology major at Sam Houston State University and I purchased this for looking at hand specimens in mineralogy class. More magnification is NOT better. Get a 10x. They have a better field of view, more of the specimen is in focus, and the sample can be further away from the lens. This 30x has to be so close to the lens that it really blocks the light. Not very useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Truly Remarkable Quality, March 18, 2010

This review is from: SE Triplet Jeweler's Loupe - 30X (Misc.)
I must say i am very..Very....VERY shocked at the value of this loupe, not only is the construction amazing but the optics are truly 30X. The lens is firmly seated in the housing and the case is decent enough, Not only do i give it my seal of approval i would have to say good job to amazon.com for a REAL HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT.

The only drawback that i can think of is the lack of a lighting mechanism, i would have gladly paid another 5 bucks to have that feature, but its no big deal, Jewelry television sold me a loupe 10X for 20 bucks as you can see this is a much better deal.

You are wondering then why i would give it only 4 stars, besides the non existent light i also dislike the proximity required to view an item, with no lighting the subject can get very dark quickly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful magnification, April 30, 2011

Very powerful magnification at the cost of very narrow focal depth. Not comfortable on the eyes for prolonged use. Best used in very bright white light. Cover hinge is appropriately stiff. Case is a nice touch, if not poorly finished in some areas (Loose thread ends, untrimmed excess leather). I was finally able to verify for myself the inclusions in my girlfriend's diamond ring!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, February 7, 2011

I got this loupe as a special purpose tool to have quick high magnification for things like knife edges and such. For this purpose it works well. Construction seems solid and the lens is clear. Like others have noted, the field of view is quite small, you have to hold the object very close, and your eye needs to be very close. This causes lighting issues and can strain the eye. Best to put what you are looking at on a table or in a clamp. But, I knew this going in and for pocket size high magnification for quick inspections it works well for what it is.

A more general use loupe would be 10x +/- but this one works fine for my intended use.

This loupe really gives you 30x magnifying power. The product is very strong, well-made, and look & feel like a professional-grade equipment for jewelers. I definitely recommend this loupe to anyone who needs one to look for inclusions in diamonds.

I bought this item because I started looking through my old coins for any valuable coins, and sometimes you need to magnify the coin in order to tell if you really have a coin worth money. The optics are great, although I'm still getting used to just how close you need to hold it to the object, but I am slowly getting more and more used to it.

I also have been able to view the edges on my chisel set to see how I need to grind them better.

Like others have stated, it would be nice if there were a light on this item, but for 12 bucks, I'll use a desk lamp instead.

As a little side-note, I used my cell phone camera with this loupe and was able to capture a decent picture of something at magnification. With a little Macgyver-action, I should be able to possibly set up a webcam to use as a handy way to easily look through my coin collection!

I would recommend this product to anyone who is curious about how things look under magnification!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeweler's magnifier, July 12, 2011

This review is from: SE Triplet Jeweler's Loupe - 30X (Misc.)
LOVE this thing! I got this because there is an inclusion in the diamond in my wedding ring and it has been causing cracks that can be seen without the magnifier. I wanted to keep an eye on it since the jeweler refuses to acknowledge the cracks and replace the diamond. This allows me to do that and see so many neat things about the diamond.
