5.0 out of 5 stars Sea Patrol S01 and S02, July 2, 2009
This review is from: SEA PATROL - Complete Series 1 [NON-USA Format / Import / Region 2 / PAL] (Electronics)
Both are excellent, some of the best to come out of Australia. Also, remember, this is a ZONE 2 DVD, not playable on most US DVD Players, but if you do some research on the web you can find the codes to enter with your remote to de-zone your DVD player so it will play all zones, it is really easy. Now, as to the price, it is extraordinarily high. You can buy it over there for 33$USD (I calculated the exchange rate for your convenience) and get it shipped here by post for only $6 AUD (bout $4.50 USD. I hate to see people get ripped off, and worse yet, I hate to see people rip other people off. But, that be said, it is an great series, superb acting and great scenery of the Australian coast lines and the islands around the great "Down under"!!!

What could be more fun than being aboard an Australian patrol boat in beautiful waters with interesting young people and non-stop adventure? The boat, the HMAS Hammersley, is part of the Royal Australian Navy patrolling the waters off Australia. It would be equivalent to our Coast Guard, spending most of its time interdicting drug trafficking and smuggling, and rescuing boats in trouble. But in the true spirit of action/adventure stories, almost every blip on the radar promises to bring more than expected to what might at first seem to be a routine mission. We learn lots of personal things about the crew from the banter on the bridge and in the galley, but when the crew goes into action is when they really shine. I especially like the technical and military talk on the bridge and the way the officers interact with each other when assessing a developing situation. It seems natural and real. I appreciate seeing professionals behaving like professionals, rather than wringing their hands and displaying out-of-place emotion. A recurring theme is how crowded the little boat is, and how the 24 crew members must exercise self-restraint and discipline if the boat is to be effective. All in all this is a good series -- well filmed, well acted, and well written. I have been able to see only Season 1 which is streamed [...], but I hope I get to see all the episodes eventually. If you are looking for something refreshingly different from American TV, I recommend giving this a try. But don't forget, the DVD it is not for Region 1.
