From Booklist

The fourth novel to feature SEAL Thomas Crocker on a hunt concerns the drug war in Mexico. With a failed mission in which several men were lost still haunting him, Crocker moves on to a new case: a senator’s wife and daughter have been abducted in Mexico, and it appears that, even if the ransom is paid, the captives are unlikely to be released unharmed. The pace is relentless, and the inside knowledge of how the SEALs operate again gives this series its appeal. The ending feels way too rushed, but that’s only a minor criticism. For action fans, Crocker continues to deliver. --Jeff Ayers

"Crocker and his team fight every step of the way...a story grounded in reality...real insight into the hurdles, practices and experiences of the elite band of warriors."―Daniel Terrell,

"Exciting...Crocker and his men go about their dangerous mission, which involves a boatload of Special Forces military action."―Publishers Weekly

"Pulse-pounding reads filled with the kind of knowing, immersive detail that can only come from someone with real-life experience in the field. A great series."―Howard E. Wasdin, New York Times best-selling author of SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper

"An amazing, timely, and very accurate thriller. Mann and Pezzullo's depiction of today's world of transnational crime and U.S. clandestine operations is frightening, balanced, and on the mark. I literally couldn't put it down."―Joel Vargas, Assistant Director of Law Enforcement, InterPort Police

I received the four SEAL Team Six books Hunt the Wolf, Hunt the Falcon, Hunt the Scorpion, Hunt the Jackal on the same day and I binge read them one after the other. Other reviewers will tell you the details of the plots, but I want to write about the series as a whole.

Although I tried to read them in order, the e-editions I received did not clearly indicate the sequence, even on the OTHER BOOKS BY list. I took a guess and read them Falcon (3), Scorpion(2), Wolf (1), Jackal (4). It didn't matter much, though, there are some timelines of injuries, deaths, and traumas that run across the series but the books stand alone pretty well. The quality of the text is not even across the whole, however, with Jackal being more choppy than the others. I wondered if one of the writing partners put less effort into that one.

The world of these books is not like the one I inhabit, and I don't say that because I am not a SEAL running all over the world chasing bad guys. I need to sleep, I need to eat, and when I sprain an ankle or break a bone, it takes weeks and months to heal. Not these guys. Thomas Crocker tells us every book how many days a year he is on assignment and away from his family - 200, 260, 300 days. These guys don't have circadian rhythms, I guess. Jet lag, no worry. Sleep deprivation, no worry. Let's go. Let's go. Gunshot wounds, broken bones, sprains, torture, emotional trauma, all the standard ordeals of action thrillers, no worry. We are SEALS! We bounce out of the hospital onto a plane to the next assignment. It's exhausting just to read. And what's with the diet sodas? I would have thought these guys would need to pack calories to maintain this schedule. They even skip a meal now and again. Never knew soldiers to do that.

This book was fast paced and action packed all the way through.Seal Team 6 ( led by Tom Crocker)is conducting a clandestine mission in Syria. They are awaiting a rescue flight from a Blackhawk helicopter. The Blackhawk is shot down by Syrian forces.Seal Team 6 is finally rescued by an Israeli helicopter. Upon reaching the United States a news bulletin comes out that a U.S. Senator's wife and daughter have been kidnapped by a Mexican cartel. This cartel is led by El Chacal who is nicknamed the Jackal. He has had plastic surgery so that recognition is near impossible. The husband of the kidnapped mother and daughter is a U.S. Senator. His name is Jesse Adams Clark, a former Navy Seal. He is close friends with Tom Crocker. After reporting back to duty He and his team are given the assignment of rescuing the mother and daughter. He gathers
Seal Team 6 and prepares for action. Seal Team 6 is also referred to as Black Cell. Crocker and Seal Team 6 are able to get a location of the kidnapped mother and daughter. Once they arrive in Mexico they discover that the local police forces are owned by the cartels(Jackal). Crocker and Seal Team 6 get into several shooting altercations with the cartels and discover that they are fighting with the local police forces as well as the cartels. The Seals are finally able to rescue Mrs Clark. The
daughter is nowhere to be found. They finally locate her in Havana,Cuba. They are going to transplant the daughter's liver to El Chacal(Jackal). Excess drug use has damaged his liver. It is a race against time to rescue the daughter. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Seal Team Six: Hunt the Jackal by Don Mann is a fast paced, exciting read that takes fans of the series, and new ones, on a wild adventure of military ops that most of us will only ever read about.

Seal Team Six: Hunt the Jackal is a well written and captivating story. This is the type of book series that truly puts the reader at the heart of the characters, and makes them feel thankful that while their job is highly interesting, it is one we only want to read about, and not take part in. It is also the type that makes us thankful that there are people out there, such as the author, who put their life in danger to protect us and our country.

If you really want to see what the elite warriors that protect and serve our country do, this is a great book to read. I’m not going to ruin the plotline and give away details like that. The characters and plotline are genuine and will engage you to want to continue reading, and likely grab the other books in the series, too. I highly recommend it.

* Thank you to the publisher of Seal Team Six: Hunt the Jackal, Mulholland Books, for providing me with a copy of this book for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Author Don Mann’s Seal Team Six series of books remind me of the serials in the “olden days,” such as the Doc Savage series, the Executioner or the Destroyer series. That is meant to be a good compliment as I loved those books as a kid and no series has stood the test of time like they do. The Seal Team Six series rarely, if ever, bogs down and the vernacular and everything in it is relevant. I was not surprised when I read one of the authors bio that he was the “real deal.” I will continue to read this series and I recommend everyone with the taste of adventure, the taste of the military lifestyle or who just likes good actions books read this series. You will not be disappointed.
