Book Description

What if you were a Navy SEAL Commander on a top secret mission when you and your six man team were ambushed because of a leak---a mission only the President and six other people knew about? What do you say when a complete stranger walks into your hospital room and tells you a family secret that's been kept from you since birth? How would you handle the knowledge that five dead SEAL's, your best friends, were just collateral damage because someone wanted you dead?

Jason Lewis Turner, or "Jase" to his friends, has to face that reality. Every new piece of information he learns about his family makes his heart scream for justice even more--doled out by his own hand if at all possible. He hides it well from those around him, but the pain of loss is tearing him apart inside. He's never felt more angry and alone. To let anyone get close would put them in danger from those that want to kill him. Who is it? Why? All he has are some clues that don't seem to connect. Because of his family's legacy, Jase is thrust into a new life of wealth, power and danger. Lucky for him, danger is something he knows a lot about.

Authors note: This series has adventure, romance, drama and mystery. It should appeal to men and women alike.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unreadable. February 10, 2012
By Juli
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first time I've felt I needed to review a book, just to warn people. This story had great promise but made me feel like I was getting preached at. The "Left Wing" bashing was egregious. I'm very much in the center, politically, and this made me start to hate the republicans. I also have a concealed weapons permit and this story made me want to apologize to my democratic friends. I thought stories were meant to entertain, not preach. This whole thing reads as if it was written by a very young man. I can't even finish this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fairly good read. January 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Picked this up on my Kindle while waiting for one of my several "favorite authors" to release their next book. It was enjoyable for the most part, but oldgamer's review hit the nail right on the head. The subject of left-wing media bias, left-wing this, left-wing that, was beat into the ground like a dead horse, and if it dared to stick its head up it was beat again like a pinata at a birthday party full of starving kids. While I for the most part agreed with much of what was said, it did get tiring. Oh...that, and it reached a point where I was ready to scream the next time Jase told his sweetie how much he loved her, and vice versa. In fact, it was a close tie between the "I love you's" and the left-wing bashing. If both had been toned down a bit this would have easily been a 4 star rating, if not 5. That said, I enjoyed the book enough that I'll give the next one in line a try.

1.0 out of 5 stars A book with an agenda July 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I agree with "Unreadable". I am also a moderate, and very patriotic. But really, my political views are neither here nor there when it comes to the review of a fiction novel. Right? My life is crazy busy and very stressful. I read fiction novels to relax and forget my troubles. I love to go into a fake world of excitement with good guys and bad guys (where the honorable, good guys eventually win), and if there is romance thrown in too, all the better.

I really loved the start of this book. It was fast paced, interesting, and with strong characters - until the far right-wing agenda came into play. I thought: Huh? What is this? A Tea-party propoganda tool? Why do the characters have to be preaching to me about their political views? I can watch TV any time if I want to get bombarded with vague, but very pushy statements (unsupported by facts of any kind) from either crazy side of the political spectrum.

I pay for fiction to get AWAY from that. So sorry, Mr. Whittaker. You are a good writer, but I did not enjoy your book. I put it down and have no interest in reading any farther.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very long and mushy June 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I could have gone without all the I love you, I love you too, I love you more type of writing. This was to drawn out, the story would have been good at half the length. Also to many editing errors for me to enjoy and I don't remember reading a book that had what someone was thinking in quotes, that was weird. I only got 40% thru it and gave up.

5.0 out of 5 stars First times a charm...... January 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is great! Whitaker writes with amazing details about Jase Turner and his intriguing life, first as a Navy Seal and then as a man out for justice. The descriptions of the cars and weapons are excellent. I could see them in my mind! Reading this book has caused me to have second thoughts about owning a gun for my own personal protection. It taught me a few things about patriotism and love of country. More than once Whitaker reminded us of the absolute mess our country is in and suggested solutions on how to fix it. If you are even a little patriotic and in love with the United States of America, read this book and know what patriotism is all about. And there is even a little romance thrown in for us ladies!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but "puts the b back in subtle" March 3, 2011
By jmace57
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I recently read this book on my Kindle, and I thought the plot was quite interesting. It is a different premise than you usually see. I would have given it 4 stars, except for the following issues. I am conservative, CCW license holder but the author wrote about the "left-wing media", and the "left-wing-biased media" at LEAST 100 times in the book - I agree, but give it a rest. It also so much as says anyone who does not have a concealed handgun license is a fool. The final complaint is that the author feels like he needs to spell out every bit of dialog - for example - instead of saying something like 'the two couples said good-night', he puts in every bit of dialog where'Person A said "good night"', Person B said "good night", Person C said "good night to you too", Person D said "good night, all".

I highlighted these complaints, but it is an enjoyable read with likeable characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars story of a lifetime October 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is worth the time to read. It actually hits a nerve that is apropos to today's headlines.
This is only a story yet what's happening now with Obamacare is very distressing. Our government is letting us down by the back room deals just like in this story.
I applaud the author for his support for our military heroes. I can't wait to read the book about Jason Turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars WARNING This Series Is Very Addictive! July 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had no idea that this author would grab my attention so completely with this series. One page and I was hooked! This series has a multitude of awesome characters that draw you immediately into their fight between right and wrong. You find yourself rushing through chores so you can get back to the book and see what happens next! Soon as I finished Book One I had to buy the other four so I would not have to miss any reading time. If you read only one series this year make it this one!
