5.0 out of 5 stars A matter for Men
Well i have to say that this series is one of the best I have read. I remember buying the first book in the series back around 1991 and couldnt wait to read the next and next, then to my horror i had to wait a few months for this book to come out and finished it that same day. It has been 8 1/2 years since this book came out and i just read the series again (i cant stop...

At the time of writing Book 4 (in 1994), Gerrold mentions that he was about 30,000 words into Book 5. This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Well i have to say that this series is one of the best I have read. I remember buying the first book in the series back around 1991 and couldnt wait to read the next and next, then to my horror i had to wait a few months for this book to come out and finished it that same day. It has been 8 1/2 years since this book came out and i just read the series again (i cant stop myself), I just wanted people to know that there are people like me out there waiting over 8 years for his next book in the series. The reason I also decided to post this was to make sure he was still alive, and to let him know that to keep his fan base he really needs to finish the series or at least put the next book out. I really really hope you read this david in the hopes that you will stop writing these other books and let us find out what happens to McCarthy and Lizard. Besides that point the best all round book i have read for sci-fi

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid sci-fi!, June 3, 2005
This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
One of the better of the series, some good action and further development of the main character. However lke others, I've lost faith that there will be any closure on the storyline as it's been *years* since the last book.

At the time of writing Book 4 (in 1994), Gerrold mentions that he was about 30,000 words into Book 5. I've looked up various mentions on the Internet since then, and one thing that Gerrold has repeatedly states was that Book 5 was very hard to write. From what I gather, Book 5 is literally a book where Jim goes insane and becomes at least partially terraformed by the Chtorran ecology. I gather that much of it will be halucinations.

In early 2001 David Gerrold mentioned on his website that he had just finished an important turning point in the plotline of the novel, and had also passed 100,000 words (with a projected book length of 300,000 words). His website now has not been updated in months, but still posts a 2002 release for A Method For Madness.

For all of you who are upset over the long wait, keep in mind that he is quite busy with other things. As his website says, he has a special-needs child that takes up a lot of his time and is more important to him than anything else. Just give him time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leave them wanting more, I guess, April 25, 2003
This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
This series is excellent. I love them and have reread the books many times. However, I will not put forth the effort to reread them anymore. We are coming up on one decade since the last book and I've lost faith that there will be any closure on the storyline. If you start reading these books, you will love them. Just don't be upset that when the author dies at the age of 107 and the next book still hasn't been published.

5.0 out of 5 stars This unfinished series is one of the finest series I've read, May 18, 1998
This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book represents the 4th (and possibly the last, since I can't seem to find any information about when or if Mr. Gerrold plans on releasing future volumes in this series) installment in his acclaimed "War vs. the Chtorr" series. As I write this, it has been some years since I read this novel, but I can say that it is definitely one of the premiere science fiction series that I have yet encountered. Dealing with a full-scale ecological invasion of Earth, Mr. Gerrold deals in a very convincing way with the concept of an entire ecosystem invading our own. This ranges all the way from the microbial level, to huge purple worms with razor teeth that seem to have quite a taste for humanity. Over the course of the series, as you watch Earth's military and scientific branches struggle to understand and defend the entire planet (and constantly losing ground, I might add), you are swept into the desparate plight of the Earth's dwindling population. This is one book that deftly mixes scientific inquiry with action and suspense. At the first of this book, as a group of soldiers invade a subterranean worm colony, I was reminded of similar scenes in the movie Aliens. This book definitely has something for everyone who appreciates good science fiction. A compelling story line, great action, an overriding mystery regarding what/who is actually behind the invasion of Earth, and memorable characters. It's basically Cyberpunk meets Alien and War of the Worlds all wrapped up in one. Read it. You'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 5?, April 8, 2010
This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Just a note to all who have gotten this far, The War against the Chtorr, Book 5 is due out in Winter 2010/2011 (from what Mr. Gerrold has told the press); and, as he is also almost halfway done with Book's 6 and 7 (the series will be complete with 7 books), the last two books will probably follow not more than a year to three years afterwards.

Stay Tuned for A Method of Madness!

5.0 out of 5 stars David Gerrold is a jerk, October 4, 2007

This is an excellent series. I won't write why, because the ground has been covered. David Gerrold needs to finish this series. He hasn't died, so what's the excuse?

5.0 out of 5 stars we know how it ends... but how do we get there?, January 16, 1999

This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you havent read DG's "Voyage of the StarWolf" or the two booker "Covenant of Justice" and "Under the Eye of God" then you dont. But if you have, then you know through certian references to the past.

After finishing #4 I thought to myself, "Self... this is the most complete, consistent, involving, etc... series you have ever read", for I was completely exausted when I finally finished. I then proceeded to read the series again and found answers to alot of questions that went unanswered during the first go-through, like, What finally happened to Ted? What was the purpose of all the dirty limericks in ARFR? Why did we need to know about the Baby Cooper '$', and Who cares for Soloman(Foreman)Short quotes? My advice to all who get involved in this black-holeish type series is read it again and again. I've read the series atleast 10 times and not only do answers keep presenting themselves but it keeps me from taking a road trip to L.A. to see if i can help him jog his AMAZING imigination.

I was hopelessly hooked from Book #1 and and the series has had me thinking about my own "Modes" ever since. Jim has definately matured through the years and that maturity shows on multiple occasions. I do believe I learned something from the mode training.

My fustration level at the end of this book almost rivaled the fustration I had at the end of book #1; just a dead-pan, "be sure to tune in next week folks!!!" except weeks have stereched into five years. Take this to heart David... dont worry about anything else but finishing that book... quit teaching and lecturing. When you finally out,"A Method For Maddness" you will make more money than McDonalds... We fans love to show our appreciation of expertly crafted, originally twisted, and jaw-dropping plots by buying the new release and telling all our friends to go buy it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too long a wait, December 31, 2008
By
This review is from: SEASON FOR SLAUGHTER (The War Against the Chtorr, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fans of this series have waited FAR too long for Gerrold to finish the series.

It is an excellent story but we have been waiting 15 years for the next book.

As others have noted, he has published other stories during that time.

According to his website he has been working on the last few books all at the same time.

Please just finish one of them so we will have something to read in the meantime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the 5th, November 27, 1999

Little did I know, after picking up the first book in an airport book store, that I would be waiting to finish the "trilogy" 15 years later. The whole series sweeps you along like a raging stream; through rapids, around eddies, over falls and across placid waters.

The last five years have been a frustrating wait, but I manage. Have mercy Mr. Gerrold, publish the fifth book.
