I just love this crew!!!! They know and feel what they are doin'. Capital D is as sick as they come.... The rest of the crew complement him with their realness and passion shown in the whole album. If you are Hip-Hop....you know what to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Underground Release for 2001, January 25, 2002
By

This review is from: SECOND NATURE (Audio CD)
After years of bubbling in Chi-town's underground, All Natural rises to the surface with this triumphant release. "Second Nature" boasts some very dope skills from members Capital D and DJ Tone B Nimble. Production never falters, as the Molemen and J. Rawls take the helm on tracks not overlooked by DJ Tone B. Many social issues are addressed by Capital D, whose panache for intellectualism keeps a listener's attention firmly in his grasp. Philosophical tracks like "Appreciate Life" and my personal pick "Renaissance" focus on why its important to strive in times of anymosity and musical decadence. Other joints, like "Mr. Sexy" and "Queen's get the money" are well crafted attacks on gold diggers, that do not resort to generic, petty name-calling that is so abundant in mainstream hip-hop these days. "Second Nature" is a very well-rounded effort from these stalwarts, and should find a place in every true head's collection, as the most memorable album of 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chicago IL is for Real !, May 22, 2001
By
Chris G (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SECOND NATURE (Audio CD)
All Natural, the underground hip-hop duo from the Windy City of Chi, tear it up on this Thrill Jockey released LP. The two bring refreshingly warm sounds and ideas to the set, taking pride in never spitting those wack verses so often infesting the so called 'hip-hop' that gets majority of the air play available in 2001. The two brothers shine droppin verses like: Queens get the money/broads get the boot/for tryin' to get game tryin' to play me for my loot/I'm down to split cash with the ladies' with cash/but all you gold diggas can kiss my..., on "Queens". Other highlights include "Appreciate Life", and their Chicago underground anthem "Ill Advisory". There's also some bangin' instrumentals such as "The Next Mile", and the ultra-fresh beat on 1/21/01, where all the haters are told it ain't nuthin' to em'. These guys have class, a definite sense of artistic ability, and are never scared to be innovative and creative in molding and defining their style and message. Do not pass up this gem. All Natural isn't going away. Also check out No ID, Molemen, and the earlier Common releases. Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars ILL ADVISORY GOING DOWN, September 30, 2005
By
This review is from: SECOND NATURE (Audio CD)
Its amazing when you look at the scale of overated rappers and DJs today such as young jeezy and Missy no talent. These are rappers who make millions off of stressing quantity over actual quality on tracks and albums and while wack MCs continue to push there weak style and ryhmes on the undereducated masses it seems as though capitol D and and his Dj are a truly talented crew who have slipped under the radar of even most underground heads this is probably due to lack of promotion or any backing by a real record label. I believe that through the history of Hiphop there are several albums that should be considered essential listening such as KRS-ONE Return Of The Boom Bap and MF DOOM Operation Doomsday. This album is not only an essential listen it is also one of the greatest Hiphop albums of all time in my humble opinion of course. capitol D proves him self to be a wonderful lyricist on this joint and he could probaly take out 99% of these cats on the radio talkin about they rims, hoes, guns and all of that other pointless nonsense. if you do not buy this CD or at least give it a listen you are seriously missing out. 5.0 out of 5 stars classic, July 24, 2001

I know, I know, the word 'classic' is criminally over used in hiphop, but this album is a rare treat. Capital D's rhymes and the solid beats take it back to the old school, not so much in terms of musical style, but in the sense of quality art coming from the street. Every track on here is dope. Anyone with even a passing interest in hiphop should buy this. Put the Puffy CD down and buy this one instead, it'll make you a better person. Peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have, August 17, 2011

A near classic. Stellar, return of the avengers, Queens get the money, are all dope songs that aged very well. Like on many hiphop albums, there's a bit of what feels like filler material. This prevents the album from becoming a classic that makes you want to press play again when the album is over (it's 74 min long). Still, even the filler material is listenable. My original cd was scratched and I bought it again. I guess it's always a good sign when someone really wants to keep an album in his collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Made It!, April 28, 2001

Well you made it here, so you must have an eclectic taste in music. Being the first person to review this group I am very honored!! I love hip-hop. And to see a hip-hop group on the Thrill Jockey label surprised me but I also knew the album would blow me away. (Thrill Jockey has put 99% good ish out) The beats are totally original and very smooth, and chill. They have their own style---when you listen to the CD you are absorbed in the music and dont think about anything else, or in no way try to compare them to anyone because their sound is so organic. The beats are really, really chill and the MCs really come across nice. I only pray that Thrill Jockey will put out more hip-hop and please, remixes...maybe All Natural, remixes by Tortoise, Mouse On Mars, and hmmmm....Sam Prekop? Five Stars-puts you in another world, just like most Thrill Jockey releases. We need a remix album.

This is one of the illest albums to come out in 2001. If you love underground+Conscious hip-hop, this one is for You. Capital D is one of the illest MCs around and he proves himself in this album. The group is a bunch of intelligent MCs doing what they Love Most....
