I am a security professional. I bought this DSC 9047 security system for my home in 2009. It has worked very well and dependable. I recommend it.

Although the keypad has a 85db alarm/siren (buzzer) for inside the house, I'd recommend also ordering an wireless external siren with blue strobe (model WT4911). Depending on the size of your property to ensure proper auditory coverage, you can have up to 4 additional sirens (I put one in my garage with a motion detector too). You'll want an external siren(s) to scare away the bad guys before the Police come (if you have it monitored, which is not required in most states).

Personally, unless you travel a lot or have undependable neighbors (to call cops when siren goes off), I wouldn't get the system monitored ($25+/month). Well placed external siren(s) will get the intended effect...scaring off the bad guys.
