More About the Author

Melinda Metz grew up in San Jose, California. People sometimes ask if she knows the way there. She kinda does, but she has an off-kilter sense of direction, so to be confident of arriving, it's better to consult some kind of navigational device.

Her mother tried to teach her to read in kindergarten, but Melinda had no interest. She also had no interest in learning to write her name. (FYI, when Melinda was in kindergarten it was all about finger-painting, play time, and naps.) Eventually, she mastered both and even majored in English at San Jose State University.

After college, Melinda moved to Manhattan to seek her fortune, which involved learning to identify fruits and vegetables while working at a grocery store,
making $2.73 working backstage for an off-off Broadway play (her part of the box-office profits), and editing books.

Melinda and the lovely and talented Laura J. Burns pretty much became unofficial writing partners when they were editors at the same company. They teamed up to brainstorm story ideas, and at some point their brains fused in some key places. Later they worked on the Roswell High book series, Laura developing and editing the series, Melinda writing.

That series led to Melinda and Laura, now an official writing team, writing two TV pilots, moving to L.A. to work on the Roswell TV show, and briefly living in Toronto while on the writing staff of 1-800-Missing. They both continue to write books, together and separately.

Melinda has never regretted learning to read and write her name.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Michael and Maria fans, May 31, 2000
By
Rachel Hanson (Salt Lake City, Utah USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is probably my second favorite in the series, next to the first. It is a must for Micahel and Maria fans, and for the other couples as well. In the book, Maria has Nicolas's ring that she picked up that night at the mall. She notices that the ring gives her some powers, such as healing, and most importantly, she can see what someone is doing at that moment.

Meanwhile her relationship with Michael is growing. She doesn't know if what he feels for her is merely a big brother kind of love, but she knows that she definitely likes him. In this book we get to have a glimpse into Michael's life, and his rough time at the foster homes.

Isabel is still despondant over losing Nickolas, but Alex is still there for her, even though she tossed him aside for Nickolas.

The three aliens are learning a lot more about who they are and how they came to be here, from Ray. He is also teaching them some special powers.

Max tells Liz that they will never be together, and so she is very angry and very hurt, and as a result desides to forget him and move on. She tries going on some unsuccessful dates with a guy named Jerry. Max, who still loves Liz, spies on her by shape-shifting, but she recognizes him.

Every time Maria uses the ring, unknown to the others, to help find their ship, she experiances some frightening consequences. And then one night while going to visit her, Michael sees her passed out on the floor with a bloody nose, a result of using the ring. Now he and the gang must save her from a certain death...

This book is a great one because it explores all of the characters more deeply. --Rachel

5.0 out of 5 stars Continuing saga of Roswell high teens gets better & better!!, April 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The SEEKER: ROSWELL HIGH 3 (Paperback)
I love how Ms. Metz writes these books with a center point on 2 characters but never loses track of the story. Take #1 - Max and Liz...#2 - Alex and Isabel, #3 - Maria and Michael. You get to learn about each character more and more in each book without getting confused to who's doing what when and why...I loved how she wrote in Maria finding the strange glowing ring and she had these psychic powers when she used it. You can really see how badly Maria wanted to know what its like to be "one of them". The whole book pulls at your heart strings in romance, makes your heart stop for action and suspense, and always wanting more!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is da bomb!, November 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The SEEKER: ROSWELL HIGH 3 (Paperback)
Maria has a secret - the ring she found gives her strange powers. Whenever she wears it, she can see through the eyes of other people. Which means she can look through Sheriff Valenti's eyes to find the wrecked spaceship. And if that doesn't get Michael to notice her, she doesn't know what will. . . . Michael is thrilled that Maria wants to help him search for his parents' ship. Especially since it gives him an excuse to spend time with her. But he can't help wondering about this new power she has. Where did the power come from? And more importantly, could it put Maria in danger? Roswell High, No 4 is called The Watcher
