not bad, but strong smell,

These cans burn a long time, look great, and I love the crackle, but the smell was very powerful. The smell actually gave me quite a headache, esp. when I go one floor up (the fireplace is near the stairs) where the heat and smell "rise". I got Sunjel fuel in a subsequent order, and while it didn't crackle quite as nice, there was virtually no smell with the Sunjel brand, so I'll stick with that one.

The first thing I would like to clarify is previous postings about the paper not coming off the can. You just need to know how to do it! Simply start peeling at the seam and the entire lable will come off just like a post-it note. The other thing I like about this gel is that is has probably the highest "crackle" effect of all the gels I have tried and that makes for a more enjoyable experience. I'd like to see the prices on gel come down, but Amazon's price is one of the lower out on the market today.

Sticky Labels,

While the Fireglo Gel Fuel burns very well, the fact that the labels on the cans are extremely difficult to remove make it almost impossible to use. As anyone who uses a gel fireplace knows, you have to remove the paper labels from the cans before burning the gel. Not doing so results in the paper burning, and the unpleasant smell pervading the room. Removing the labels from the Fireglo cans is difficult and time consuming. Before using the gel, you have to allocate several minutes per can to peel the labels off. The glue used is strong and the paper is thin. This causes the paper to constantly tear, and to leave paper residue all over the can.
Although the price is reasonable, and the gel itself burns well, I'm not sure I would buy this brand again. I bought my gel fireplace for the convenience, and having to spend so long removing stickly labels almost defeats the purpose.

Works great, great crackling log fire effect, no strong odor!,

I bought two gel fuel fireplaces and in spite of some of the reviews I read decided to try Fireglo because it's made by SEI who made my fireplaces. I couldn't have been happier or more glad I did! The labels are off the cans so you don't need to peel them off, they were easy to light, stayed lit for 3 to 4 hours, gave off nice warmth and glow and the crackling log fire effect is wonderful! I don't understand the odor some people are talking about, there was a slight odor but not strong at all, barely noticeable. I might try other brands to compare, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Fireglo as far as I'm concerned and I will keep using it.

This is a great gel fuel. The product burns nicely and I did not detect a strong odor. The nice thing is that the labels are already removed. You just take the lid off and light. No more removing labels! Usually get about 3 hours burn time per can.

When my boyfriend and I moved into our current house a couple years ago, we missed having a fireplace. We looked at all the options available and decided to purchase a gel fireplace. This eliminated the need for any construction and enabled us to enjoy a real fire. We tried all the gels out there and landed on FireGlo as our favorite because it had the best crackle, the least odor and seemed to last the longest (3+ hours each). At first the cans came with labels but last winter we noticed the labels were removed. This is a good thing as you need to remove the labels before lighting anyway. I would recommend this brand to anyone with a gel fuel fireplace.

People who are complaining about the smell must have gotten cans with the labels attached. Mine arrived with no labels. There was no odor to go with a beautiful flame and crackling noise. Great product.

Excellent product. No odor, gives off nice heat - and mine came with no labels on the cans. I'm ready to order another case now that the cool weather is upon us and the holdiays are right around the corner.

HSN sent me this stuff instead of the Sunjel I wanted. Nice flame and crackle, but horrendous smell. It's actually the smelliest I've ever encountered. And I've tried them all.

These gel fuel canisters are perfect for use with my portable fireplace. They arrived without labels so no removal is necessary. And the odor issue that others have commented on was non existent. The flame and the subtle crackle is wonderful.
