Finest quality under $1000
on February 20, 2014
The quality of this watch is just fantastic. Pictures really do not do this watch the justice it deserves. I purchased this watch after scouring every review I could find online regarding this watch, and the comparisons between the Seiko "Sumo" and similarly priced (and much higher priced watches). I have had the pleasure of handling some very nice watches such as Oris, Omega, Ball, etc. and the finish of this watch's case is comparable to watches 2-4x its price. The artful detail of brushed/polished finishes, gorgeous matte dial, superb lume, and excellent 6R15 movement make this watch a steal at ~$500. I'm very much an over-thinker when it comes to purchasing, and in the ~$500 range there are lots of very nice Swiss options to compare this to. These weighed heavily in the decision process because the Sumo lacks a sapphire crystal which is more scratch resistant. I'm extremely happy with my decision, this watch is a classic and will sell for much more once this excellent line is discontinued. These watches began around ~$650 and remained so until recently due to current exchange rates. If you're on the fence I would go ahead and take the dive while the gettin' is good.
