From the Manufacturer

SENTRY Calming Collar for Cats

These collars provide constant contact with calming pheromones wherever they go.

SENTRY Calming Collars use patented GOOD Behavior pheromone technology. Using a pheromone that mimics the one mother cats produce to calm their kittens, the collars are clinically proven to reduce or eliminate stress-related behavior such as inappropriate marking, destructive behavior, clawing and anti-social behavior. Collars help alleviate problem behaviors triggered by travel, thunderstorms, fireworks and new social situations. This collar continues to release calming pheromones to your cat for 30 days. It can be used for cats of all ages and breeds without long-term side effects.

Product features:

  • Proven to effectively modify behavioral problems in cats due to stress and fear
  • Releases pheromones for up to 30 days
  • Helps cats and kittens feel safe and secure
  • Safe and effective
  • Can be used without long-term side effects
  • Lavender chamomile fragrance

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Place collar around cat’s neck, adjust to fit cat’s neck comfortably. The collar must be worn loosely to allow for growth of the cat and to permit the collar to move about the neck. Generally, a properly fitted collar is one that, when fastened, will snugly slide over cat’s head. Leave 2 or 3 inches for extra adjustment. Cut off the excess portion of the collar. The collar is designed to release powder when applied, which will activate the pheromone technology. When fresh collars are stretched out they may have a powder coating. This powder is primarily a carrier for the pheromone technology and not the pheromone technology itself. This powder is not harmful to animals. Wash hands after placing collar on cat. The effects of one collar last up to 30 days. Seal collar in plastic bag when not in use to prolong the effect.

How quickly will the cat respond once the SENTRY Calming Collar is on?

When the collar is placed around the neck of the cat, the perception of the pheromones by the cat is immediate. However, as in every behavior program, the visible improvement in specific behaviors may require some time, depending on a variety of factors: the cat, the nature, duration and severity of the problem, and behavior modification (cat and owner). Usually, an improvement in specific behaviors is seen during the first two weeks after wearing the collar, but some cats may require a month to exhibit visible improvement.

Customer Reviews

I had to finally take it off the cat and put it out in the yard to get the smell out of the house.

After about two days with the collar on, I noticed my cat started scratching around his neck and licking his chest obsessively.

This collar seemed to work the first two days my cat wore it, but after that she was back to her neurotic self.

Once cats enter the geriatric stage of life, they often meow for no apparent reason. The first symptom is usually some howling at about the time the lights go out in the house at night. As cats age further, they may start doing it for long sessions at seemingly random times. I tried the collar on our cat and it delivered enough calming effect to eliminate eighty or ninety percent of the random meowing. Our cat has certain insecurities, one of which is a near-empty food bowl. (We adopted her starving off the street when half-grown, and she's never gotten over that particular insecurity.) The collar will not stop her from meowing incessantly if her food supply gets low. My point is that I wouldn't expect the collar to make a cat a lot less anxious about what it thinks is a serious concern -- it doesn't make them stupid!

Don't overlook the fact that the collar (as advertised) only lasts about a month. I've noticed that some have a stronger odor than others. The odor, which the box describes as "lavender chamomile fragrance," can be pretty much unnoticeable, can be as described, or can be similar to insecticide.

My cat can be bad about not using her pan. In addition to the specially treated cat litter, we use spray pheromones to good effect in household areas where we want to discourage that. Spray pheromones are not supposed to be used near the cat pan, because that can discourage use of the pan. The idea with the spray is to use it where you don't want messing and scratching and not to use it around pans or scratching posts. I was concerned that having the pheromones literally on her at all times might take away the effect of the spray, but it did not. We've not had any new problems of not using the litter box. We've also had no problems with rashes.

Hi,
I've never written a review before, but this has been such a sanity saver for me and my family.
My cat has been acting out since our move in March. He was urinating everywhere and hissing at everyone but me.
We took him to the vet and all the tests came back negative. He was put on prozac but could not handle it and was still hissing and growling. I tried this collar, I wasn't hopeful, but then...It worked. I have my sweet kitty back. He has done a 180 and has stopped all of the bad behavior and seems truly happy again. Thank you for this product. It is wonderful!

To start with, I am very pleased with this collar, although it does have some drawbacks. I have a 1-year old rescued cat who, while he is the sweetest, most wonderful cat in the world by day, he turns into the Tasmanian Devil at night. We have a very small house and even with the bedroom door shut, we can still hear him meowing. He has been neutered, but he has extreme seperation anxiety and meows literally non stop all night long if we shut him out of the bedroom. There is no pause in the meowing... he can go up to five hours at a stretch without taking a break. I am a light sleeper and he keeps me awake all night long. But if we let him in, our bed becomes his playground and he cannot stand it when one of us starts to fall asleep and will prompyly dive-domb or bite us to wake us up.... leading to him swiftly being shut out..... cue more howling and meowing all night long. Its a vicious circle. We cannot let him out as cyotes and raccoons live in our neighborhood and have attacked neighborhood cats, so this collar was our last resort.

The pros - Well, good news, it works! But at a price. I would personally like to see the collar redesigned, then I would give it five stars. I'm not sure how the hormone works but from the first night we put this on him HE STOPPED MEOWING AT NIGHT. COMPLETELY. Myself and my partner slept our first full night in the 8 months since we rescued him. Heaven!

The cons - In the morning we found a very blissed-out, spacey cat with huge pupils who wouldn't make eye contact and acted stoned! I would like to know exactly what is in this collar, and how it works. As soon as we took the collar off him he 'sobered up' within about five minutes and started meowing and making eye contact again.

We adopted two cats from our local shelter, unrelated spayed females about three years old, who turned into The Hisser and The Pisser. Although we did everything "correctly", took several weeks to introduce them, multiple litter boxes cleaned twice a day, Feliway dispensers (THREE) AND Feliway spray, several cat trees, etc etc etc, they were both little terrors. The Hisser hissed and growled AT EVERYTHING -- my husband, me, bugs, furniture, the television, the other cat. All she wanted was to stay in the little cat carrier she had been brought home in and peek out, it was actually really sad. And she just HATED The Pisser. The Pisser -- well, guess. She was very friendly and affectionate, but pee'd E V E R Y W H E R E -- the bed, the couch, the ottomans, the curtains (I still don't know how she got it up that high), chairs, grocery bags -- it would be quicker to list where she DIDN'T pee. The vet gave us anti-anxiety drugs that we used for awhile, but it didn't really help. After four months of this I actually talked to the shelter about giving one or both of them back, but hesitated because that would have labeled them "unadoptable." In desperation, I tried this collar.

It took about a week, but the change with The Pisser was astonishing. I won't say it was a complete miracle, she still pees in the bathroom occasionally. But she went from peeing everywhere to peeing about 95% of the time in the litterboxes. That I can live with. The Hisser, once The Pisser stopped peeing everywhere, became much calmer and more friendly. Personality wise, she just isn't a "cuddly" kitty, but she is loads of playful fun and now only hisses and growls when we clip her nails.
