The list author says: "Recommended books on SEO. Are you looking for the best books on SEO for 2013 and 2014? Here is my list of recommended, top-rated books on search engine optimization (updated, January 2014).
I teach Search Engine Optimization online for the JM Internet Group - just Google 'Jason McDonald' to find me, as well as at Stanford Continuing Studies. Many times my students ask - hey Jason, what are the best books on SEO? What books would be top-rated? What SEO books would you recommend? SEO for Dummies is popular? What about SEO for Dummies?
I am actively looking for RECOMMENDATIONS on the top SEO books for 2014. Got one? Please email me, unless you are that rude author guy - you know who you are.
So here's my list. These are my favorite books on search engine optimization. One book is missing - the Google SEO Guide - published for free by Google. Reach out to me and I'll point you to where that one is; it's a freebie, and everyone loves free, no?
At any rate, here are my favorite SEO books updated as of January 2014. If you know of other great, fantastic, top-rated, best books about SEO, Google Marketing, getting to the top of Bing - you get my drift - reach out to me and suggest a book. I review quite a few on Amazon, and am always eager for the latest spin on this perpetually fascinating topic - using SEO to get your small business to the top of Google and Bing.
This is my list of my FAVORITE top ten, best SEO search engine optimization books ever, well at least for 2013, 2014, and going into 2015 Got a great book? Email me and perhaps I'll review it, or include it on this list.
Oh and check me out on YouTube. I am rambling on here like Jenna Marbles, and I do want to be the Jenna Marbles of SEO on YouTube. Shout out to you, Jenna! I'm on a horse. (If you get that allusion, send me an email)."
"Eat less, exercise more. There are other books that will promise you magic pills for SEO success. But this book tells it like it is: step-by-step methods to succeed at search engine optimization. Plus worksheets, and links to video files."
"Link building is ever-more important, and this book is the 'bible' of link building. It takes a very difficult subject, and breaks it down into a comprehensive strategy. Still it's hard to do SEO-friendly link-building, and after reading this book, one must 'learn' by doing. Has nice resources on SEO link building as well."
"Google produces some amazing, free resources for small business. Not just Webmaster tools, but learning sites like Analytics IQ, or tools such as Page Speed. This SEO book identifies all the goodies in the Googleplex for small business marketers. Free stuff by Google, about Google, to get you to the top of Google, for free. Plus coverage of AdWords and Social Media (Google+). (February, 2013)"
"Free SEO Tools for dominating Google's free (organic) listings? What could be better. Here's the latest and greatest compilations of hundreds of free SEO Tools from across the Internet. Brought to you by the world's cheapest man (me). Enjoy!"
"This is the best SEO book and the worst SEO book at the same time. The best: for very serious SEOers, as it has unbelievable details and is written by the cognoscenti of SEO. The worst: for your average business person or marketer, it will be too confusing, too "in the weeds" when what is required is a clear, concise DO THIS NOT THIS type of guide."
"SEO, with a sense of humor. Less useful as a guide as to 'what to do,' and more useful as a 'lay of the land' guide. This book helps you understand the art and science of SEO, told through pictures and humorous text."
"If you are interested in Panda, Penguin or even the new EMD update, this book has among the best coverage of those esoteric changes. What's nice is it isn't a book just for experts. The authors provide a nice up-to-date overview of SEO in this 2012 guide."
"Google Analytics is arguably the top free metrics platform. Learn how people get to your website, and what they do. This book is an in-depth, hands-on guide to an increasingly important yet hard-to-use platform: Google Analytics. April, 2012."
"Lists and lists and lists of great things to do to improve your rank on Google and Bing. SEO is all about details, and a book of lists makes my list of the top ten SEO books. Why? Because the devil is in the detail. This book isn't the best written book, but it has TONS of great ideas."
"Danny Dover has written a book on SEO, more for experts than for the average business owner. So I recommend that you get this book, only after you have read and digested the introductory texts like my own or Peter Kent's. At that point, you are ready for some esoterica, and Dover's book is one of the best books on SEO to start moving up from practitioner to expert."
"This is the No. 1 best-seller on Amazon on the topic of Search Engine Optimization. Does that make it the best book on SEO? Not necessarily... It is still rather technical, still written a bit too much like nerds talking to nerds. But it's a very succinct summary of what SEO is, the vocabulary of SEO, and the basic concepts. So I do recommend it!"
"This is NOT a beginner book! Rather, this is more an SEO for SEO experts book, with a nice discussion of Penguin, Panda, and EMD. (If you don't know what those are (yet), don't buy this book). If you do, you'll probably do better just reading the blog posts."
"Remember those cute animals in the Zoo? Panda? Penguin? Well and then there is EMD (exact match domain), and negative SEO, and manual penalties. This book is the first of its kind to focus on recovering from Google's nasty little attacks on Search Engine Optimization in 2013."
