SEO Like I'm 5 is actionable, entertaining, and easy to read. SEO may seem like a very complex and difficult to understand topic, but Matthew does a great job of distilling it down in easy to understand language and format. Not only was it actionable and easy to understand, it is also quite entertaining and inspiring. In the year 2014 if you are not developing your online presence with content and search marketing, you may be completely missing the boat. The author is clearly an expert on the topic, so I highly recommend this book!

Most SEO authors, intentionally or otherwise, turn away beginners by getting deep in the weeds too quickly or by peppering their writing with industry jargon, making it nearly impossible to catch up. Written in a friendly and entertaining manner that anyone can understand, "SEO Like I'm 5" gets beginners up to speed in hours and provides a solid foundation for startups, small business owners, marketers, and aspiring SEOs.

I thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from this book. Like Matthew says in the beginning, "it's no SEO for dummies," but does break down a historically intimidating practice in a digestible and reader-friendly manner.

One of the biggest issues I tend to have with books in this space is that authors seem to take a purely theoretical approach, leaving readers with a million questions as how to implement what they just learned. After reading this, I feel like I can intelligently speak about the history of SEO (specifically the evolution of Google's ever-changing algorithm) and optimize my content effectively.

Reading about SEO in the past, I always imagined a constant battle between search engines (again, specifically Google) and those trying to "hack" it, as they say nowadays. Rarely, if ever, have I seen someone so clearly articulate that it's about working WITH the Googles of the world to level the playing field and get the best content to the top, whether it's produced by a public company with a multi-million dollar marketing budget or a local business that provides more valuable insights that resonate with their target audience.

As an avid reader of his blog, SearchDecoder.com, I can attest to the fact that Matthew has a knack for simply explaining complex ideas and his passion shows through in "SEO Like I'm 5."

There's something about SEO makes people say "This is WAY too much information. I'm going to ignore it." Unfortunately, those people are also missing out on 50% of the web's traffic.

Unlike most SEO books, Matthew's book doesn't attempt to cover every aspect of SEO. Just what you need to get started and start to see results. For that reason, this the first book anyone looking to get into SEO should read.

That's not to say there aren't any advanced strategies in the book. There are. But the value comes from the work Matthew has put into simplifying this often daunting topic into something a 5-year old (or 50-year old) could understand.

Confession, I am not a marketing guy. I thought I will not be able to understand anything about what's inside. I am happily proved wrong. Great job Matthew Capala. I have gone through some sections by the day and its quite exciting. I kept hearing about marketing terminologies like SEO / SEM and others and now its much clear what they mean and how they can earn a lot of mullah for companies who adopt these strategies.

Great work.

This is the only book anyone eager to learn about SEO needs. Not only the book is filled with tons of tools that will make it extremely practical to understand how search optimization works but also be the best search optimizer. The author, Matthew Capala, could not have done the best job by writing a complex subject in a manner in which anyone, no matter their lever of expertise, can truly understand and be able to immediately apply the unsurmountable amount of tips provided.

In addition, I like how his approach is about the self and finding ways to brand yourself in order to be a "self-trepeneur" . This book should be a staple on every entrepreneur, students, marketers, businesses shelves. Kudos to Matthew for writing a book about a complex and providing us with a well needed wealth of information.

I am very new to Search Engine Optimization, and this book is what I needed to build my foundation. Matthew Capala emphasizes that improving your site ranking is an organic process and is more a byproduct of creating valuable content and making real connections online rather than resorting to trickery for quick gains. In addition to providing tips about crafting good content, the author suggests many tools and sites to help you build your reputation online. He stresses the importance of Content, Code, Credibility & Connections. All of this will come in handy for my own personal use and for the work that I do as a volunteer with a non-profit organization. I am very pleased with this book and would gladly recommend it to anyone who has even a passing interest in the subject.
