2.0 out of 5 stars Not the brand described September 2, 2011

The product description saye Kimble Bombex, which is made in China and I'm thinking the third best maker of lab glass. The item shipped is 'United', made in India and I've never heard of it. I don't even know if it is borosilicate glass. I like my glassware to match, which is vain but presents a professional appearance to my lab bench, and I don't want the end product of a multi-day reaction to explode on a hot plate because my glass is not heat resistant!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch July 29, 2013
Verified Purchase
I've never written a review before, however, the items received were not those described on Amazon's site. I purchased these flasks for experiments to supplement my daughters' chemistry classes this year (we home school). Granted, Amazon described these as Bomex, an economy grade borosilicate glass usually from China, not a professional grade borosilicate glass like Pyrex or Kimax made in the U.S. or Japan. Bomex is probably fine for educational purposes, as long as you remember the glass is a little thinner, probably poorly annealed and will likely not hold up as well under a higher heat of reaction (so wear eye protection). The problem: these flasks have no markings at all to indicate the material from which they are made, unlike the photo on Amazon's website. They do have minor imperfections and, no doubt, are less accurately graduated. I'm a chemical engineer and surgeon and lean a little toward compulsive. I don't want my kids performing some of my experiments with unlabeled glassware. That's an unnecessary risk. Bottom line, since I can use the flask set for general mixing and not as reaction chambers I'll probably keep these, but now I'll have to order another set-- this time from a more trusted supplier. As the set cannot be used for its intended purpose (and for compelling me to write a review), one star for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars *NOT AS DESCRIBED* May 21, 2013

I wanted a set of flasks that weren't too expensive, but not too cheap. These worked great for my purpurses. Although this link currently sez they are sold by "scientific equipment of houston" fufilled by amazon and have a picture of clear (no liquid in them) flasks with the word "BOMEX" for Kimble Bomex; the ones I received were not from them nor were they kimble bomex brand. They don't have an insignia on them/i couldn't tell the brand.

I actually received them broken, from "Mountain Home Biological and fufilled by amazon" I contacted Mountain Home Biological and they were very kind in sending replacements. The product I "purchased" was kimble bomex from scientific equipment of housten, but the ones I got were no-brand from Mountain Home Biological. I contacted that company to let them know that amazon is advertising their product as Kimble Bomex and they said they would contact amazon to try to fix it. (this was like 6 months ago) Not if its seller or amazon that is having the problem.

Regardless, the ones I got worked and if your not picky about the brand they are adequate. There are slight imperfections in the glass, but nothing horrible bad. I was able to place mine on a hot plate without it exploding. But I only tested the one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Product NOT as represented on Amazon October 29, 2013

Buyer beware!!! This product appears to be a cheap knock off of the Erlenmeyer Flask Set by Kimble Bromex. It is a generic unmarked product which is falsely advertised on Amazon. The product in the picture is not the brand you will receive. Yes, it's a flask set but I would never trust this glass on my hotplate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precisely what I needed January 8, 2011

They work great! The largest is just a shade smaller than I would have wished, but the variety in sizes still gives me a lot of options. Being a junior high science teacher, I needed several different sizes for different demonstrations, and they fit the bill quite well.

4.0 out of 5 stars fast shipping, good quality June 5, 2010

I purchased this set for decorative purposes, and it was shipped very, very quickly from Houston. The packing job was superb - the company uses a lot of bubble wrap! The only thing that I noticed that was strange was that the smallest flask - the 50 - didn't have the same glass marking symbol on the flask as the rest of the flask sizes? This seems different vs. the picture of the product. The 50 also seemed a bit more scratched on the interior, as if it had been previously used. The other sizes looked brand new. To earn 5 stars, the set would have had to match more perfectly and the 50 would have had to look brand new.

Unlike other lab items I have purchased on Amazon these are actually new and unused. Good buy for them. I am using them for a drip coffee maker and they are an excellent buy for that.
