Fridge formed at school in Putney, south London, in 1996 and were quickly signed to Trevor Jackson's Output label for their first albums, Ceefax (1997) and Semaphore (1998). The band moved to Go Beat! for Eph (1999), before settling with New York label Temporary Residence Ltd. Meanwhile, alongside the group, its workaholic members were cooking up other projects.
