5.0 out of 5 stars An elegant examination of human ethnic values as if scifi, January 28, 2009
This review is from: At the Seventh Level (Paperback)
I first purchased this wonderful tale in the '70s. In light of the times it is a great work examining roles of women in societies crippled by tradition and perspective.

Think fundamentalist views of females as cattle. Think women limited by both their failure and success.

A great read by Suzette H Elgin! It will make you think! Communicating Gender Diversity: A Critical ApproachPlease enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than "Chronicles of Riddick" SciFi !, November 1, 2008
This review is from: At the Seventh Level (Paperback)
I just reread this wonderful book by Elgin. One can imagine Riddick's New Mecca as sweet compared to how she artfully reveals her 'where'. Women readers will find an inspiring tale of a talented girl who transcends the limits of her alien culture and finds success and failure end quite the same.

The Federation agent is a hero projecting 1972 anti-hero but respectful awareness. Sorta like Dirty Harry with a smart daughter making him think. The thought of Eastwood with his powers is scary.

Let's mind meld real soon!
