4.0 out of 5 stars Great scary stories, June 27, 2009

This review is from: SEVER: five tales of horror ("S" Collection Horror Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
I just finished reading this and enjoyed it a great deal. The mood of the stories was well done and the twists were pitch perfect. I would have given this book 5 stars except for one error in the space/vampire story, where I had to go back and reread and found an obvious mistake. Easy to correct, I hope the author fixes it. Nevertheless, I think readers will enjoy these stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Short Story Collection, August 14, 2010

These are good little stories. I generally don't like short stories a lot because you can't really get into them before, suddenly, they're over. I only bought this book because I really liked the writing style of the author on another book I read. Ty Johnston didn't disappoint. I would really like to see some of these stories expanded into books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good chills for the price, March 24, 2010

This review is from: SEVER: five tales of horror ("S" Collection Horror Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
"Sever" contains five short stories that deliver on the horror. Very effective for a quick read and chills down the spine.

Another reviewer mentioned an "obvious mistake" that he said was "easy to fix". I found the same mistake, but I couldn't figure out how to "fix" it. Towards the end of the story, there's a misplaced sentence from earlier in the book, then the action jumps forward and there's some critical information left out.

I could fill in the blank, I have a pretty good imagination. But the other review was about nine months ago, and the author hasn't done anything to fix it himself. The reader shouldn't have to do the work for him. So he gets docked a star.

More About the Author

Ty Johnston was born in Kentucky. After earning a degree in journalism, he spent the next two decades as a newspaper editor. During that time he wrote numerous short stories, nearly all of which have been published in print or digital formats. In his forties, now a former journalist, he decided it was time to get serious about his fiction writing. He is the author of The Kobalos Trilogy of epic fantasy novels, City of Rogues, Road to Wrath and Dark King of the North. He has been published online at Every Day Fiction, Demonic Tome, The Ranfurly Review, Flashes in the Dark and other venues. His stories have also appeared in print in the anthologies "Deadlines," "The Return of the Sword" and "Demons: A Clash of Steel Anthology." Ty's main writing and reading interests generally are in the horror and fantasy genres, but he also enjoys branching out into literary works from time to time.
