5.0 out of 5 stars Telling It Like It Is, December 2, 2000

This review is from: SHADE OF HIS HAND (Paperback)
Too many times christian writers try to make us believe that if we are good little boys and girls God will pave a way for us with rose petals. Not so Oswald Chambers in this book. He lets us know that life has ups and plunging downs; horrors as well as ecstacies. The trick for the christian is to develope a day by day realistic relationship with God and to depend on him every step of the way to not only take you through these times, but to lift you up as you go. Oswald does this by an analysis of the book of Ecclasiastes. Few are brave enough to tackle this but this author does it in a very down to earth, nuts and bolts fashion. It gave me a springboard from which to go in my mind and begin to think in a new way about the things that have happened in my life. Through the whole book the author himself shines through as a real three dimensional person and not just a preacher or teacher isulated behind a pulpit or sitting somewhere writing a book. He is right in the thick of things, hot sweaty body, next to hot sweaty body. This gives his words authenticity.

5.0 out of 5 stars great perspective!, February 12, 2011
This review is from: SHADE OF HIS HAND (Paperback)
I read this book through the complete works of Oswald Chambers. I was frustrated by several commentaries I read that had such a lifeless questionable aim, and finally landed on this book. As the previous preview stated, you get a very solid overview of the book of Ecclesiastes, without a lot of chaff. While nothing is as important as relying on the Holy Spirit to teach and guide us through scripture, there is certainly good in council of the right kind, especially with some of the more difficult books in scripture. There are really a lot of very good and practical lessons in Ecclesiastes, given by one of the wealthiest and wisest men who ever lived (Solomon)...and by the way...I do believe this is a collection of Solomons observations (which unfortunately many spend years arguing about rather than gleaning from his teachings)...go and learn, and see excess and the vanities of life as they really are!
