Book Description

February 23, 2008
Never shared publicly before, Laurie's testimony is one of healing and hope for those ravaged by betrayal of a sexual nature. Her struggles together with her husband-and after his early death, alone-have paved a road of healing from such impossible wounds as Dissociative Identity Disorder and homosexuality. Her husband granted her his deathbed permission to reveal matters not easily broached in church ministries. With a passion to reach those lives shattered and similarly devastated, Laurie is a compelling model of transparency. She has reached out over the years with humor and honesty, using prayer counseling from various Christian models. For anyone dealing with sexual issues and bondage to them, this testimony is a must-read book. It took great courage to write this book but if we are to have a strong enough net for the coming harvest and do a better job of healing our wounded stories like this one need to be told. In a poignant, practical and powerful way, Laurie gives hope to the hurting and valuable insights to those called to heal them. Dr. Dutch Sheets, author and pastor Laurie Morris is a graduate of Christ for the Nations Institute. As an ordained minister with Federation of Ministers and Churches International (FMCI), Laurie has been involved with counseling for the past 20 years, primarily working with sexual abuse victims. Her studies have included Elijah House and Restoring the Foundations ministries. Laurie was married for 21 years to the late David Morris, a well-known worship leader and author. As a result of childhood sexual abuse, David struggled with sexual addiction and he and Laurie walked to healing together while in church leadership. She longs to impart hope to those who are hurting from sexual brokenness. Laurie currently resides in North Carolina with her family.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars is because 10 stars is not an option November 6, 2009
Format:Paperback
I started reading SHATTERED on my lunch break . . . lucky for me, I had nothing pressing after lunch because I could not put the book down. Long after lunch was over, I was still reading.

Laurie's writing style is superb and thoroughly engaging. Though this is a personal, real-life journey, it felt novelesque in its style.

There is simply too much in this book to describe. What I can say, however, is this: I think that every spouse and every person who ever plans to be a spouse should read this book. If for no other reason, it will help them understand the true meaning of commitment and what that looks like in the face of serious marital difficulties.

I can only imagine that most people with spouses who have similar emotional issues that Laurie's husband, David, struggled with would want out of the marriage. Laurie, however, has set the bar very high, all of which was a reflection of her true love for David as well as her commitment to the godly covenant of marriage.

The only reason I gave this book 5 stars is because 10 stars was not an option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Telling it like it is April 2, 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is probably the most honest and real thing I have ever read. Dealing with betrayal, pain, and ultimate healing and victory, Laurie shares from her gut the journey that she and her late husband took as he faced his inner demons while under the spotlight of being a leader in the body of Christ-and as she faced her own inner mechanisms as she tried to be the "perfect" wife-and how God brought healing and freedom. Interspersed throughout, she shares the keys that God gave her that enabled her and her husband to be overcomers-and also how she coped with widowhood after his death.

I would recommend this book not only to those wounded by sexual transgression or betrayal, but to anyone who struggles in their marriage in any area while wondering where God actually is through it all...this is also a book filled with wisdom for those who have lost a loved one as it also deals with the grief process. I would also highly recommend this to anyone who is a counselor or pastor to hurting people.

5.0 out of 5 stars WARNING!! April 21, 2008
Format:Paperback
The information in this book will cause you to look at society and our innate ability to live blissfully blind in a whole new way!! It is a true "gut check" of the realities of everyday life for so many silently hurting and wounded people. A "MUST READ" for anyone desiring to be a productive part of changing this world in which we live. This is a message of hope, love, faithfulness and ultimately the healing power of truth.

Laurie's willingness to share such intimate details of struggles in her own life and the lives of those touched by these circumstances will be applauded by many. What a true outpouring of selflessness!!

Thank you Laurie Morris!!

5.0 out of 5 stars eye-opening perspective August 9, 2008
By julez
Format:Paperback
This book is a personal story of unreal proportions(of pain, honesty forgiveness, faith, healing and wholeness)but all very real! It is an eye-opening perspective of our culture today along with being a message of hope and encouragement. The author states, "The point is: I've been through what I've been through. You've been though what you've been through. God was faithful to me and He will be faithful to you. He is not a respecter of persons! In each and every situation we face He wants to show Himself to us and work His character in us. He is always pursuing us to trust Him wth every single aspect of life."

5.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Example of God's Redemptive Nature!!! June 21, 2008
Format:Paperback
I was gripped with Laurie's transparency throughout this book. Her honestly will cause many to open their hearts for the very first time. I can't recommend this book enough. It will be especially helpful to those who have experienced betrayal in their marriages. There are far too few books that show God's redemption in such a powerful way. Laurie is one of my new heroes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real and Timely March 24, 2008
Format:Paperback
Laurie is brave and truly looking out for others in her revelation of the love and mercy of God. I know several people who have been shattered by life's veracity and I believe that this book is filled with the care and direction people need today when facing or trying to make sense of personal devastation in their lives. This book could be a lifesaving gift for someone this year. Laurie is genuine and open in her chronicle as she reveals God's compassion for those who need to know that they are not alone!
