5.0 out of 5 stars haunting melancoly and fevered dreams, January 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: SHELTERING SKY (Audio CD)
Viewing the VCR of Bernardo Bertolucci's film "The Sheltering Sky" late in the evening prompted my housemates to ask "What in the world was that music you were playing last night -- it gave me nightmares." After that, I had to get the soundtrack for those special moments when haunting melancoly and fevered dreams are just the feeling state we are longing to feel. Composer, performer, Ryuichi Sakamoto is supported by an international cast, including Lionel Hampton, Charles Trenet and traditional music of the northern Sahara. Exotic -- just the thing to listen to when you, like the heroes and heroine of the film decide -- "I am a traveller, not a tourist. A tourist knows that he is a dabbler, sampling the unknown then retreating to the familiar. The traveller has no illusions of return."
