The SHURflo 5900-0211 5.7 Extreme Series Smart Sensor Pump is designed to provide reliable water pressure and flow to the onboard sinks, toilets and showers commonly found in modern RVs, tent trailers and similar vehicle applications that approximate home use. The pump runs on 12 VDC power, features a power draw of 10 Amps and a combination of a five-chambered diaphragm, large inlets and outlets and microprocessor managed water pressure that allows for a maximum water pressure of 65 PSI. Additional features include: preset shutoff functionality, multi fixture use, variable water speed and a three-year warranty.
Just Like Home Water Pressure Anywhere
SHURflo potable water pumps have enjoyed a near legendary reputation for performance and longevity among recreational vehicle owners since the late 1960s and they continue to set the industry bar even higher with their new, "Extreme Series" of Potable Water pumps. Possessing an improved physical design, a maximized PSI rating and incorporating a pressure management system monitored by an onboard circuit board and microprocessors, the SHURflo Extreme Series line of pumps represents the ultimate in pump performance and reliability, with the Smart Sensor 5.7 model representing the top-of-the-line.
The Smart Sensor 5.7 is specifically designed to provide larger RV's with "Just Like Home" flow and pressure to drastically improve the performance of showers, toilets, sinks, washing machines, dishwashers and whole-house filtration units. This is made possible by way of the Smart Sensor 5.7's powerful five chambered design, and its system of extra large inlet and outlet passages. Together these are able to generate 65 PSI, more PSI than any SHURflo potable water pump before it. Once available, this amazing amount of pressure allows for up to 5.7 gallons per minute which is managed and maintained by the system of onboard microprocessors, allowing for both multi-fixture use within the system as well as variable speed. The result is an abundant, effortless and quiet flow of water that will change the way users feel about water use aboard their RV.

ShurFlo Extreme Series Smart Sensor 5.7 gpm variable speed pump was purchased 8/5/2005. Pressure and flow was similar to household plumbing. In early July 2008, it lost pressure. After a faucet was turned off pump ran at very low speed for minutes to hours. If power was turned off and back on, the pump would stay off. No water leaks, no air in lines. Same problem with both freshwater tanks, suggesting not a problem with tubing between tanks and pump.
ShurFlo replaced the pump under warranty July 8, 2008. Pump replacement labor cost $150 and 4 hours in a waiting room.
If I had known the new pump would act like this, I would have fixed the old one. The old one had no adjustments, ran quietly and always at the perfect speed to meet volume demands. Replacement pump has pressure adjusting screw in the center of the pump head.
Replacement pump is unpredictable. Sometimes seems to work fairly well, then will surge and cycle or shut down. It is often noisy like a jack hammer. I have attempted to adjust it over the past 7 months without success. Several times I have thought it was adjusted correctly, only to have it change in the next day or so. It often acts like the entry level pump that led me to upgrade to Shurflo to begin with. It's no fun in the shower--high/low pressure & flow, hot/cold temperature. OW!

1. We just installed a new Shurflo 5.7 in our trailer to replace a Whisper King. We had a 5.7 in our last rig and were VERY pleased with it, until it failed. The new one I just installed is a warranty replacement from Shurflo and I just took the old one out, put the new one in.... and YIPES! The new one, at ANY speed, hammers like a jackhammer!!Read more ›
I can assure you that if you purchase this pump it is a great one and you will be very pleased with the pressure that it gives you as its more like the house hold pressure your use to. It also is great because its VERY quiet and reliable. You will not regret your purchase and their customer service from what I have read on this site is GREAT as they will warranty their products even if you mess them up! LOL... Anyway you can take this with a grain of salt, but its true I have had one in my RV for over a year and its great!
Thanks SHURflo for a great pump!
On the other hand, a variable speed pump like this 5900 series makes the pressure variability problem go away entirely. The high pressure makes showers just like home - which is Shurflo's motto. But their design is not rugged enough to withstand its 3-year service life. This is my 3rd of these. Failure is typically due to leakage into the pump body, valve failure, or failure of the sensors. If it's the pump body your fuse will blow and the pump will run slower and slower as it destroys its bearings and contacts. If it's the sensors, you get sticking and erratic operation. If the valves, you may see it unable to stop running slowly as it tries to get the last few psi, getting blazing hot until it (softens its fittings?) and fails. Changing the head assembly yearly might achieve longer life, but only if leaking never happens. In my case I've just let the pumps run to failure and then swapped them out.Read more ›
I jumped on our boat yesterday and the admiral yells out No Water... good fuse, good power, so I grabbed my spare 5.7 and had water in less than 30 min. I'll see how long this spare last me.
