5.0 out of 5 stars Plug and play, April 21, 2005
This review is from: SIIG JU-PC8112 8-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
I chose this card reader because it does not require additional software to be installed. Under Windows2000, I plugged it in and four drive letters showed up. I was able to assign drive letters using Disk manager. I used a Kingston 1gig CF card, which was hot swappable (although I still use the "eject media" for good measure). Next, I tried my notebook computer - again, no problems. I think this blows away Zio/Dazzle readers. To boot, the reader is much smaller and more compact than it looks like in the illustration.

i just recieved mine and it is really easy to set up just plug it in and away you go the transfer rate is so fast compared to using the digital camera to transfer photos to the computer. only problem was with an older computer i have it has to have seperate drivers installed but they come with the reader/writer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally got it working on Mac laptop, April 15, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SIIG JU-PC8112 8-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader/Writer (Personal Computers)
I finally got my IBM Microdrive, in the CompactFlash slot of this SIIG 8-in-1 card reader, to mount on my Mac G4 Laptop, for the first time after 3 months of failure, and fairly brisk but non-curative e-mail responses from SIIG tech help.

First hint of a turnaround came when I tried it yesterday on my wife's 2 Mac laptops and it promptly mounted and opened on both, one running Mac OS 9.2, the other running OS 10.4.2 (Tiger). But it still would not mount on my Mac Model A1046 15" laptop, purchased Sept 2003.

On Googling the "SIIG 8-ib-1 reader does not mount" problem, I found suggestions that the Microdrive might need more power than the USB 2.0 bus could supply. Then I tried a 32 MB CompactFlash card that came new with my Canon Camera, and it mounted at once. So I removed that from the card reader and once more inserted the Microdrive--and NOW it has mounted and dismounted and remounted again through 3 cycles -- no more problems. I give 4 stars to SIIG and Amazon for the product, and save one for me for the hope and bungling perseverance that finally got it to work.
