From the Inside Flap
Stands Proud stopped the truck in front of the old cabin. Silver Hawk's car wasn't there. A light was on inside the house and the door was hanging part way open. It was late. Hawk was supposed to show up at a meeting about the construction going on in the Black Hills but he'd never arrived. Stands Proud got out of the truck and walked over to the door. He called out for his son but didn't get an answer. He went inside. On the table with the small lamp was an empty whiskey bottle, an eviction notice and a book. Stands Proud picked up the book and opened it. When he saw the words 'Juanita's Journal', his heart fell. He sank down into the chair staring at his wife's handwriting. Tears came to his eyes and he blinked, trying to read the words. He couldn't. He couldn't do it. Stands Proud wiped the tears away with his hand and put the journal down. He put a finger on the eviction notice, dragging it across the table until it was in front of him. The construction company was trying to evict his son from this land, this land that Silver Hawk roamed long before they got here.
