not the best design but still pretty effective for image stabilization. originally conceived for video cameras but i use it for my regular DSLR camera. holds camera pretty still except for those moments when you're huffing & puffing, then you want to disconnect from the chestpod as you're getting lots of movement then. great for times when you can't use a tripod or monopod. also gives more freedom of movement and quicker response than with a monopod. a definite must for low light handheld situations, especially when you don't have a fast lens.

haven't bought one yet but am considering a slik mini pro tripod as a possible 3-point chestpod.

I have had mine for over 15 years. I have used it on various cam-corders. I find that I get older, I need the stability this device provides. So easy to hook up and adjust to your size. Allows you to lower your camera and not fear dropping it. I would recommend this for all cam-corder use. I also plan to try it on my 35 mm SLR to get the extra stability.

Much needed for larger lenses! I'm only 5ft tall and just bought a 500mm Sigma lens that weighs almost 5 pounds, add that to my Pentax DSLR with the grip, and it makes for a heavy day of shooting! This also helps to stabilize the lens for clearer pictures, as well as hold up the lens - love it and would buy it again in a heartbeat! AND the price cannot be beat! The only reason why it isn't getting 5 stars, is because of the slight difficulty in releasing the monopod head from the device to go "hands on", when needed. Don't get me wrong, it would not stop me from purchasing the item, as it is a life saver,,,,it just is a bit tricky to separate at first.

I liked using it, but not sure if it's needed. Took some weight off my neck, so for that, it's good (bad back and neck). I think the design could be improved by including a harness instead of just a belt, so that it attachés to a harness that goes over the shoulders with a wider flex/stretch material belt that breaths. And, the addition of a tether to the top portion that is adjustable for angled away from body support.

Years ago SIMA made a chest pod that worked vertically and horizontally. This one only works horizontally, so it's OK for landscape photography and video. Luckily I still have my original one (thought it had broken but found it in the basement). I love it and use it all the time. Wish SIMA would bring it back.

You won't confuse this with professional camera stabilization equipment. Yet this extremely inexpensive little device goes a long way in providing a stable platform for shooting. It's not for motion stabilization (walking and shooting). It's a simple device that allows you to establish 2 or more points of contact to reduce or eliminate camera shake without the hassle and complications of more complicated equipment like a tripod. This device allows you to move quickly and easily from location to location without a whole lot of fuss due to its simple design and low profile. And even better, It won't attract a lot of unwanted attention. Use it where even a monopod is just too much gear to move around with. The quick release plate, while plastic is more than adequate in providing a secure connection between your camera and the unit. There are similar, more rugged devices such as the Novoflex Chest and Shoulder Pod and the Dot Line DLC V9 HDSLR Camera Support. But these units are up to 10 times more expensive. The only thing to keep an eye on is the leather connections between the neck strap and the rest of the unit. Over time (in my case, many years) they can dry out, crack and break. But considering the low cost, you could simply keep several of these devices on hand. Once again, this is not professional equipment, but it is an inexpensive device that really helps you stabilize your camera and get more professional results. On a side note: I thought they had quit making these and was delighted when I found they are still around. And yes, I own a tripod, monopod and even a Glidecam. But I wouldn't want to be without this handy little device.
