Excellent, ten-star children's music record!,
By DJ Joe Sixpack (...in Middle America) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: SING ALONG WITH PUTUMAYO (Audio CD)
An outstanding set of kid's music with folk scene stalwarts such as Arlo Guthrie, Taj Mahal and Tim O'Brien joined by bluegrassers Tim O'Brien and Rhonda Vincent and blues pickers Keb Mo, Guy Davis and Eric Bibb, as well as Americana-country types such as Rosie Flores... An impressive lineup, sure, but better still is the calibre of songwriting, and the actual kid friendliness of it all. This is a really fun album! Fun, as in, little kids might actually like it, and might even sing along if you played it for them. Plenty of silly songs like "Bling-Blang," "Bananaphone" and "Bellybutton Song." Some songs are perky, like "Red, Red Robin"; others are instructive, like "Man Named All The Animals," and others still model assertiveness and communication skills, like Taj Mahal's excellent "Don't You Push Me Down," in which various kids stick up for themselves in unpleasant situations. I like this album a lot, and plan to play it for my kid for years to come.

Children's music that won't make you homicidal,
By Lizapest (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SING ALONG WITH PUTUMAYO (Audio CD)
I picked this CD second hand. I work in child care in Toronto and am always on the lookout for tunes that are not in the insipid Barney-esk category. I think the staff love this CD just as much as the children. It has different styles of music and is not only great for dancing to it can also act as a spring board for discussions of various cultures. Apparently there is a guide that you can order to create lesson plans. Unfortunately my favorite track is not one that you can sample here but Taj Mahal's "Don't you push me down" is the absolute number one favorite of everyone and is often put on repeat. It has actually cut down on pushing fights in our daycare, now if they would only make a song called "Don't you throw sand in my hair"....

Family Favorite,

My grandparents sent this as a gift for my daughter's 2nd birthday. We listened to it on a 10 hour road trip and none of us tired of it. In fact, it's been in my car's CD player for 2 years and we listen to it all the time. The songs are not like the Wiggles or other similar artists. Everyone can enjoy them and sing along.
I bought this for my friend's daughter. I know she'll love it as much as we have.

The music on this CD is excellent. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes music as well as anyone who has children or grandchildren. The messages in the lyrics are uplifting and confirming, the professional level of the musicians is first rate, and the enjoyment factor cuts across all ages.

The BEST,

This is by far the BEST children's music out there. My 2-year old son loved it the very first time I played it and it now has him dancing every time. He can take or leave the Disney or Sesame Street CDs. Plus, I agree with other reviewers-- it won't make parents crazy like the others. Very talented musicians sing interesting and creative renditions of songs.

My kids love it!,

I'm happy to say this is one my kids love. I even caught my 4-yr old daughter in the room "singing" along. It is one of the few cds that they request. Realy nice. Just one note: if you own Daddy-0 (various artists perform Woody Guthrie music) then you will find a track or two familiar. The flavor of the cd is similar as well. If you mix your own cds for the car, etc. the two would work really well together.

This is a great CD!,

This CD is a wonderful compilation of music for children. My 21 month daughter cheers when we play it for her and has started to sing along with the songs. We are avid music lovers and can hear it again and again (as is required by toddlers) and not feel as if we are about to lose our minds. After surveying other CDs to buy for her, it seems that Putamayo selected the best songs from some of the most popular children's music CDs.

Fun and not annoying!,
This review is from: SING ALONG WITH PUTUMAYO (Audio CD)
I love Putumayo for grown ups-- and this kid album doesn't disappoint. The songs are singable but not annoying, and the album includes refreshing takes on old favorites, like Old MacDonald and You are My Sunshine. Great! Better than Cats!

This is our favorite CD and I don't mind playing it over & over in the car. The songs and artists are enjoyable for everyone. My 19 month old daughter requests the tracks by name. Her current favorites are "Old MacDonald" and "Banana Phone".

This CD has great music, lyrics, and it's not like other kid's music that you want to throw out the window if you have to listen to it again and again. It's a must have!
